Faybel Posted September 14, 2019 Share #1 Posted September 14, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey guys, my name is Jan and I´m new here 🙂 I registered, because the other day I bought a pretty hazy Summicron 5cm DR . I disassembled the lens so far I could, screwed out the front element and removed the haze from all the rear glas elements. I put them back together, however, I could not remove the front glas that is being held in place by the retaining rings. Although I removed the retaining rings (the one with the lens name and serial on in and the one securing it) I could not take out this last glas element (which has most part of the haze on its inner side). So my question to you experts is: Is it actually possible to take out the front glas after the retaining rings are removed (as with the Elmar 5cm 2,8) or is the glas element being held in place by a another force? Unfortunately I´ve been looking quite a while on the internet to find a solution, however, I could not find a question to this answer. Hope you can help me 🙂 Cheers, Jan Btw: I know that disassembling lenses is only for specialists and that it is a complex matter. If I screw up, I´ll have to live with the consequences 😉 Looking forward to your answers

luigi bertolotti Posted September 15, 2019 Share #4 Posted September 15, 2019 "Retaining rings out with spanners, glass out with the suction cup. The front element required the suction cup be pulled with pliers. It was in REALLY tight! " Found on the Net ref. to disassemble the front group of Summicron Rigid (to say, the DR-equivalent built) : it's a group of two lenses with a thin "air lens" between… I join the opinion that is a job for very experienced labs…

luigi bertolotti Posted September 16, 2019 Share #6 Posted September 16, 2019 (edited) Excellent video… but fully dedicated to the mechanically critcal part, unique for the Summicron DR (the double helicoid mechanism for dual range focusing) : pity, doesn't show anything about glass disassembly; the manual is super intriguing (KS15... the US Military version of M2) and extremely detailed but it too does not enter in dismounting the glass components : thanks for the Link, anyway !!
