Obviously the release of the S3 and the SL2 should bring some more pricing pressure on the S 007.

Am curious if some considers picking up a S 007 and why.

Am thinking of getting preowned Sl to use with my M lenses, an SL2 depending on features and price but also look at S 007 with a 50MM equivalent if prices are coming down further.

Am using M with 262  ostly for street but do miss live view every now and then

Cheers

Jk1002,  I use the S007 for my business that helps me create landscape photographs.  The S3 will most likely not be available now until sometime next year based on my sources.  The S007 and S lenses are simply superb.  I have owned the S system since 2009 and my clients much prefer the photographs taken with the S cameras vs other brand systems that I tried but quickly sold when my clients did not like the results.  A previously owned S007 in excellent condition can be purchased from $7-9 K. The Leica Store San Francisco has a number for sale along with LS Miami.  When you purchase S lenses, I most highly recommend you get lenses that are CLA'd by Leica with the AF motors replaced.  These are going for excellent prices these days.  Make sure (insist) you see/get the paperwork proving Leica replaced the motor before you buy.  The image quality of the S007 is excellent and rendering by S lenses are IMO, most superb and my clients agree.  As for the SL it too, is excellent with M lenses.  But I have found to get the best out of the SL, use the native lenses.  The SL2 might have improvements regarding using M and R lenses as well.  We will soon find out.  As I have written on the Forum before, the number of MPs should not be an issue;  Content of the photograph is IMO, the most important aspect.  Anyone can create a photo, but IMO what makes a great photograph is content, where a person will;  Stop, Look, Think and if possible Feel something in that moment in time...that IMO again, feeling being the most difficult aspect to convey...not the number of MPs or brand of camera.  I hope this helps.  r/ Mark

I’ll likely buy either the SL2 or X1Dii to complement my M system.  But if somewhere down the road, S007 prices tumble to ridiculous levels, I could see picking up just the body and 70mm lens to occasionally enjoy that beautiful OVF, which is a dying breed.  Otherwise, I’ve soured on building an S system after the lens failures and Leica response, plus the size, weight and pricing compared to subsequent alternatives. I’m also not sure about the future of the S, at least as currently configured. But I did enjoy prints made during my S006 demo.

If the S-system is what you want/ need the prices are great right now. I use both (S and SL/S1r) and I am still convinced the IQ of the S is a step ahead of FF even with excellent lenses. On the other side the S ist big, has only one AF point and is a bit tricky in regards of AF at shallow-DOF. So it comes down what you want? Max IQ but in big size and with 1-point AF or do you want a fast and flexible system (FF) and therefore maybe sacrifice the last little bit of IQ (even though I think the difference between MF and a very good FF with a very good lens becomes smaller and smaller)

Can the 3 SL zooms be used on the S 007?

No. The flange distance on S007 is way to long for any L-mount lenses to work on the (medium format) Leica S-platform.

Actually, an advantage of the L-system (as for any mirror-less system), is that you can mount thousands of widely different lenses due to the short flange distance.
