East Indies Posted September 6, 2019 Share #1 Posted September 6, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have and M6, which after a long period I am staring to use again. I have the 35mm and 50mm Summicrons (and the 7Artisans 75mm) and am looking at getting a wider lens and am tempted by the 21mm and 25mm offerings from Zeiss and Voigtlander, as I am thinking that 28mm is not so different to 35mm. Any particular recommendations and am I right in thinking one could just about use the 25mm with the fullest extent of the 0.72 viewfinder? Kind regards, Will

RayD28 Posted September 6, 2019 Share #2 Posted September 6, 2019 I use a 28mm and I'm finding a .72 finder is slowing me down because I have to move my eyes around the frame lines. I find the 28mm frame lines take up most of the viewfinder so I can't imagine a .72 being anywhere close to showing the approximate edges of a 21mm shot. I've never actually tried to use a 21mm with a .72 because I don't have one (but I want one). A 24mm will obviously show more of what you will actually see in the final uncropped shot, but once again, I'd be forced to look around the perimeter of the viewfinder. Just my 2 cents. Others actually using your contemplated kit will know more. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Kind regards, Will No, you'd have to attach a dedicated viewfinder for anything wider than 28mm.
spydrxx Posted September 6, 2019 Share #4 Posted September 6, 2019 Just go with a quality accessory viewfinder...composition will be much more enjoyable.
East Indies Posted September 7, 2019 Author Share #5 Posted September 7, 2019 Hi Thanks for all the advice, which I took on board and then... I saw a fabulous minty 25mm Biogon ZM, with which I am delighted, and it had the hood thrown in. It sort of works with the M6 but you need to peer around a great deal. So I will quietly look for a bargain viewfinder. Any suggestions? Thanks again...

ktmrider2 Posted September 8, 2019 Share #12 Posted September 8, 2019 I currently have the 25 Biogon and love it. Some reviewers have called it the sharpest lens in the Zeiss lineup. Don't know about that but it gives the 35f2.8 C Biogon a run for its money. I have owned a number os 21mm lenses but never got on with anything wider then 25 so I gave my last one to a young man in the military who only had a 50 on his M3. Anyway, Voigtlander makes a viewfinder that has frame lines for both 21 and 25 as well as individual finders for each focal length. I would suggest the combined 21/25 plastic finder. I gave the combined finder away when I gave the 21 lens away. I presently use the 25 Voigtlander finder on the MP240 when I am not using the EVF. I prefer the optical finder as camera response is quicker (not in live view mode). From what I have read, you can get away with using the extreme corners of the .68 viewfinder found on the M240 series for 25 but not the .72 finder which is the standard on M film cameras or the M10. If I owned a 28mm, I would be using the full viewfinder on my M2 which is essentially what the 28 frame lines do in a .72 finder.
East Indies Posted September 8, 2019 Author Share #13 Posted September 8, 2019 I have high hopes for the ZM25mm. And a 25mm finder is on the way. Even 28mm is a stretch for the eyes on a .72. Off to Paris and Cadaques with my new toys on Thursday. THANKS EVERYONE

I have the 25mm only version without brightfinder. I think it was packaged with the 25mm snapshot lens. It’s terrific, bright and sharp and reasonably big, and the full extent of view seems just about right though full results await development!
