In my lens use, I'm very sensible to that subtle "aperture shape" in the final pictures.

Sometimes with surprise in Leica M use with exotic lenses that I happen to mount on them.

With SLR or mirrorless (M with Liveview can do ), we can see/preview their effects before taking the picture.

Some "contre-jour" can show also the aperture shape.

Sun stars are other secondary effects with double-number the branches for odd number of blades.

This is example of six-blade (common in SLR lenses like this F-E Takumar), sun stars and hexagonal reflection spots

Leica Monochrom with Pentax F-E 4/17mm

I didn't "see" those effects before reviewing the picture, without LV on MM1

only did "imagine" that they are on the picture

Maybe Leica need to get Miyazaki Sadayasu on the case - the 73 f1.5 has "disappearing" blades.....(it's an optical illusion I know but they seem to appear from nowhere.)

Hello Everybody,

Leitz & other lens makers went to 6 or so diaphram blades when they started manufacturing lenses that stopped down to the preset aperture when a person pushed the shutter release.

1 of the reasons for doing this was the complexity of the mechanisms involved: Less parts to move: Less to potentially go wrong. And less effort along with a smoother shutter release.

Best Regards,

Michael
