Fin Posted August 3, 2007 Share #85 Posted August 3, 2007 Steve, That's exactly where I was. I always have drivers take the BQE from the JFK/LGA airports so I can get this view. This shot was taken out the window of a towncar. I still remember when I first peeked out the window of an Amtrak and got my first glimpse of Manhattan. It felt like I was discovering a lost civilization because I had only really known the west coast until then. I basically never left since! Yep! I'm with you there - that first drive from JFK and I'm thinking " Jeez! I'm still in UK after a 6 hour flight! And then all of a sudden - Manhattan opens up and you do a double take - so familiar (from the TV - driving Williamsburg in sunshine, I say to my wife "This is Kojak!") yet so other worldly. We always take the Williamsburg because we always stay on the Lower East Side (Hotel on Rivington). I love USA but no other place has made me feel like I need to relocate and get a green card! The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island used to be the first glimpse of the USA for millions of immigrants - I think that this photograph is a modern equivilant! (with apologies to the worthy citizens of Queens). Thank you for capturing it! (Apologies all for the semi hijack - back to the wonderful shots!) Fin Posted August 3, 2007 Share #92 Posted August 3, 2007 Okay bridge i am sure it is the 90 macro Red Flowers and lake CV 12mm Flowers and castle 75 cron Stream and rocks WATE at 21mm Lake with Mountains 50 lux Cheers mate - I can now examine how your brain works!! (It's clearly quite a bit more aesthetic than mine - but I'm getting there!) The red flowers and lake is my favorite - a bit obvious perhaps - given the dramatic FOV and I love the fact that it was with a CV. Question: Is there a market for professionals to follow a couple/ family around on a special holiday and take photographs of the event. This series of photographs posed that question, whilst the joy of creating images for oneself should remain - at the end of the day, imagery like this can serve a client as well - or am I being too mercenary! MartinL Posted August 3, 2007 Share #94 Posted August 3, 2007 Magenta snow's so much nicer than the yellow stuff. No need to apologise... Lovely mountains from both you and Jaap. Below, what you can do with the 135. Cliffs and seagulls at St Bees Head in Cumbria. All this talk of St.Bees and I had to pull out the pics from my Coast-to-Coast walk some years ago. All 200 miles hauling an SLR + others including EOS 16-35 for this shot. Oy! Can't wait to do that again with my M8 (gotta make it a lot easier on the knees). Welcome, dear visitor! gwelland Posted August 3, 2007 Share #95 Posted August 3, 2007 If there's one common theme throughout all of these landscape images it is that the M8 and appropriate glass produces stunningly sharp, detailed images with gorgeous colour. When I compare and contrast to images posted elsewhere from most DSLR platforms, these Leica images just leap from the screen. It's a significant reason why I'm shooting 90% of my shots with this rangefinder combo instead of my DSLR outfits.
Guest sirvine Posted August 3, 2007 Share #96 Posted August 3, 2007 (Apologies all for the semi hijack - back to the wonderful shots!) One more...can't resist, then I'm done polluting the countryside. Oh, and just today I was wondering if anyone ever stays at THOR -- it takes a special kind of tourist to make the Lower East Side their temporary home. Must be a nice view from in there, too.
