Advertisement Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 Hi Mr.Q, Take a look here Panasonic S1H and 24-70mm f/2.8 officially announced !. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Capnord Posted August 28, 2019 Share #2 Posted August 28, 2019 A good news. But how big (140cm) and heavy (935g) lens !
Mr.Q Posted August 28, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted August 28, 2019 Could be a good option for video with it's constant aperture. I believe it's smaller and lighter than the 24-90 as well.
scott kirkpatrick Posted August 30, 2019 Share #4 Posted August 30, 2019 Have you noticed the major change in the S1H -- a fan to cool the sensor and allow continuous shooting, under external power? That should make it even thicker in the body, as the early information shows airflow passing behind the sensor and its IBIS environment. After that, there are some connector enhancements and firmware changes to make more video options happen. Like 10 bit 4:2:2 at C4K internally, and a 4:2:0 6K option.
Stuart Richardson Posted August 30, 2019 Share #5 Posted August 30, 2019 It looks like a great update for people who are focused primarily on video. I looked, and for what I need, the S1 seems to be the better choice. The addition of the AA filter, the bulkier fan and higher price seem to mean that it will only interest people who are very heavily video centric. I think this is very good news though...they obviously are looking to sustain the system and attract more high end users, which can only be good news for the rest of the system and the people in L mount in general.
scott kirkpatrick Posted August 30, 2019 Share #6 Posted August 30, 2019 I didn't catch the AA filter, which makes sense for video encoding but isn't what I would want at 24 or 48 MPx for stills. But they must know what video folks want, as the G5's are very highly regarded.

The AA makes a lot of sense with a videocentric camera... and also the sensor is likely unique in that the only recent direct competition today (in terms of sensor size) comes from options that cost exponentially more when kitted out. The camera looks good IMO but I'm not sure that it's for me personally with my current workflow but I agree that diversity of body options is a great look for the L-mount camera. I thought the 29' limit on video recording was a customs-classification matter, rather than any sort of technical limitation. The S1H advertises unlimited recording time - did they re-write the rules?
scott kirkpatrick Posted August 31, 2019 Share #9 Posted August 31, 2019 No idea. We'll have to wait for a European user to receive one to see if the price there is elevated over the US price that has been in the news.
Chuck Albertson Posted September 1, 2019 Share #10 Posted September 1, 2019 Having seen some of the reviews, I think I answered my own question. It's a full-on video camera, subject to whatever additional duty they lay on video cameras as opposed to DSLRs/mirrorless cameras that are time-restricted. Shooting stills is almost an afterthought.
