Kent10D Posted July 31, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 31, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just gave myself a nasty shock. I made the mistake of adding up the cost of my purchased (not Leica-supplied ... those haven't even arrived yet) UV/IR filters. I have: * 2 x Leica 46-mm filters. * 1 x Leica 43-mm filter. * 2 x B+W 39-mm filters. * 1 x B+W 43-mm filter. Which comes to a grand total of around ¥70,000 in the country in which I currently reside, which is about US$574, or 416 Euro. Eeeek! And I was concerned about the amount of money I was spending on lenses. Those filters creep up on you! But here's a case for using Leica glass rather than the less expensive alternatives. A $100 filter on a $450 dollar lens puts the actual cost of the lens at $550, and is around 18% of the lens cost. A $100 filter on a $2,000 lens, however ($2,100 total), only accounts for 5% of the lens cost. Trivial, eh? See! That Leica glass is looking better all the time!
