Well, you are entitled to your opinion. But as an owner of an A7RIII—having previewed the A7RIV—an S1R and a recent and prior owner of an SL, I can tell you that since the arrival of my S1R that I have not touched my Sony.  I'm not sure what aspect of the A7RIII you feel "wipes the floor," but from my perspective it's purchase was a stopgap, intermediate until something better—the S1R—came along.  Anyway, some people like chocolate, while others savor vanilla, that's why there are different flavors. Enjoy whichever tickles your fancy.

PDAF technology is definitely part of Sony Semicon which in theory could mean it’s available to customers. androidlad does all the leaking. Seens to have the inside scoop on the Sony Semicon stuff. Claims he uses a clever search function. 😂

Leica Rumors reports that Leica has registered a new camera under the code number 2998. Now all they have to do is get the pixel count right. 😂

Personally, I would be very happy with a couple of stops increase in dynamic range, and removal of the LENR requirement. An increase in megapixels would be nice, and I welcome better AF, but if that were it,  I would just buy an SL Cron or two ... which I probably will do anyway. 😎

Indeed...

The diagonal of a 47 MP sensor is about 14% larger than a 36.

However, the diagonal dimension of a 36 MP sensor is about 22% larger than 24 MP.

So there is a bigger leap from 24 to 36, than 36 to 47.

September is a vey short month (30 days) so I would not be surprised to see it announced either in October or even November and to have it available before Xmas 🙂

I'm guessing anything but that. The SL is a signature Leica camera and I'm betting (at least hoping!) that they make a major statement with it.

Me too! I really want the SL2 to be lighter and faster with an even better EVF. I'm selling all of my Fuji XT3 system to have the coin available to buy the SL2 and the Vario-Elmarit 24-80 lens. This will be a nice complement to my M10s and M primes. Then I will be done with "GAS".

Leica is not afraid at all from Panasonic and Sigma competition. 

I really hope my 2 months (hopefully no longer delay on SL2 announcement) of sufferings on ‘SL withdrawal symptoms’ is worth the wait as I held myself back on getting the S1R after selling my SL a month ago.

I would be very pleased if the SL2 comes as:

1. A much improved AF-C tracking (perhaps PDAF or PDAF/CDAF hybrid);

2. A 36MPX sensor and faster processor;

3. IBIS;

4.  Improved DR;

5.  Common L-mount Flash Protocol as S1R.

In other words a very good all rounder mirrorless camera that is fast and accurate for us to fit it with Leica SL glass rather than just a high MPX mirrorless that the X1D and S1R (MF & FF) is already available in the market today.
