I have decided to commit on a SL2 in view of a preorder. However if it were spec @ 47MP and still CDAF, I might be cold feet and get a S1R instead. +1

But as an owner of an A7RIII—having previewed the A7RIV—an S1R and a recent and prior owner of an SL, I can tell you that since the arrival of my S1R that I have not touched my Sony. I'm not sure what aspect of the A7RIII you feel "wipes the floor," but from my perspective it's purchase was a stopgap, intermediate until something better—the S1R—came along. Anyway, some people like chocolate, while others savor vanilla, that's why there are different flavors. Enjoy whichever tickles your fancy.
Chaemono Posted September 2, 2019 Share #345 Posted September 2, 2019 PDAF technology is definitely part of Sony Semicon which in theory could mean it’s available to customers. From this androidlad dude (sixth post from the top) below posted here: https://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/28270-sony-a7r-iv-a7s-iii-a9-ii-to-feature-8k-video-as-new-60mp-and-36mp-full-frame-sensor-specs-leak/page/9/#comments androidlad does all the leaking. Seens to have the inside scoop on the Sony Semicon stuff. Claims he uses a clever search function. 😂 “Brand new PDAF design from Sony Semicon, significantly faster and more accurate AF performance with zero impact on pixel fill factor. Works reliably up to -5EV, f/11.”

Have you actually shot with it? I'll admit I've haven't, but after the comments around noise above, I took a closer look at the DPReview sample shots. The noise problem looks real to me. Radek Posted September 2, 2019 Share #347 Posted September 2, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Do you think that current SL will remain in offering as SL Entry model / as with M-E?
Chaemono Posted September 2, 2019 Share #348 Posted September 2, 2019 Leica Rumors reports that Leica has registered a new camera under the code number 2998. Now all they have to do is get the pixel count right. 😂
satijntje Posted September 2, 2019 Share #349 Posted September 2, 2019 My bet would be certainly over 40MP!
hexx Posted September 2, 2019 Share #350 Posted September 2, 2019 Still dreaming about M (or M sized body) with EVF.
scroy Posted September 2, 2019 Share #351 Posted September 2, 2019 Personally, I would be very happy with a couple of stops increase in dynamic range, and removal of the LENR requirement. An increase in megapixels would be nice, and I welcome better AF, but if that were it, I would just buy an SL Cron or two ... which I probably will do anyway. 😎 2

Indeed... The diagonal of a 47 MP sensor is about 14% larger than a 36. However, the diagonal dimension of a 36 MP sensor is about 22% larger than 24 MP. So there is a bigger leap from 24 to 36, than 36 to 47.

satijntje Posted September 3, 2019 Share #354 Posted September 3, 2019 September is a vey short month (30 days) so I would not be surprised to see it announced either in October or even November and to have it available before Xmas 🙂
budjames Posted September 3, 2019 Share #355 Posted September 3, 2019 My guess is that it will be a rebranded Panasonic S1 similar to their D-Lux . Chaemono Posted September 3, 2019 Share #356 Posted September 3, 2019 I think, we should try to guess the PowerBall numbers until the announcement comes.

I'm selling all of my Fuji XT3 system to have the coin available to buy the SL2 and the Vario-Elmarit 24-80 lens. This will be a nice complement to my M10s and M primes. Then I will be done with "GAS". Regards, Bud James Please check out my fine art and travel photography at www.budjames.photography or on Instagram at www.instagram.com/budjamesphoto. His message : do not buy S1 or S1R you will regret it ! SL2 is awesome and it is around the corner Leica is not afraid at all from Panasonic and Sigma competition. I really hope my 2 months (hopefully no longer delay on SL2 announcement) of sufferings on ‘SL withdrawal symptoms’ is worth the wait as I held myself back on getting the S1R after selling my SL a month ago. I would be very pleased if the SL2 comes as: 1. A much improved AF-C tracking (perhaps PDAF or PDAF/CDAF hybrid); 2. A 36MPX sensor and faster processor; 3. IBIS; 4. Improved DR; 5. Common L-mount Flash Protocol as S1R. In other words a very good all rounder mirrorless camera that is fast and accurate for us to fit it with Leica SL glass rather than just a high MPX mirrorless that the X1D and S1R (MF & FF) is already available in the market today.
