Which would bring the prices up again. It also depends on whether an M10 Monochrome will come out. Thus far, the M246 and the MM1 are very different.

The prices I've seen for the MM1 in very good condition on eBay and in buy/sell sections of forums (fredmiranda.com) are already trending in the upper $3,000s to lower $4,000s. I just paid $3700 for a mint silver chrome version and consider it a bargain. I think the CCD sensor will help them hold their value.

How different? (I have used neither)

Sorry there are lots of posts and threads about this on LUF. The short version is, that the MM1 has more bite and the M246 renders softer at first sight, associated with a longer dynamic range.

Simply put, the main difference to my eye is that the MM1 produces more film like images. The M246 has better dynamic range and improved high ISO performance, but produces images that are more plastic and digital looking.

Just substitute  the terms ‘CCD/CMOS’ for ‘MM1/M246’ and you get much of the debate. In addition, there’s the overall M9 vs M240 platform debate.

No I don’t think so. There are lots of people who care a shit about CCD or CMOS, or favor CMOS and still favor the MM1

Hence the term ‘debate’.  See dozens of comments already on the topic in various threads.  You’ve expressed one side.

I thought the CCD/CMOS debate was about colour, not B&W? I must be uninformed.

And noise. And individual perceptions.  Etc , etc.  Pretty soon, we’ll be repeating all the prior discussions here.
