Although they can be seen feeding on the ground, they spend quite some time in trees and build their nests up there as well. I saw them in Bwindi up trees over 50 % of the time. Anecdote: in our group we had a very nice Texan gentleman who (presumably) only removed his distinctive hat when showering. Only after a young Gorilla peed on it from a tree, could we see that he was bald, as he gave his hat to a porter. 1 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Jaap - In the four families we saw in Bwindi and in Volcanos (two in each venue) they were usually on the ground with the exception of very the young and the "teens."
