Thank you for this photo. I personally don't like the bokeh in the bright area at the right. I wonder what a Summicron-M 50mm would have given, for example. We can get one of those used for about twice the retail price of the Sigma (US $549 at Adorama). Of course, one has auto-focus and the other does not. Hello sir! Can I ask you to post more of the shots made with this lens, I browsed flickr and the results in the hands of the newbies aren't representative, but yours are quite interesting. Thinking of buying this one for my SL and use it as daily documentary lens. Thank you!

It's funny because the sigma-sein.com article states that the lens was designed to be softer at close distances (and sharper at infinity). That's exactly what he didn't like. I think we will see a lot of reviews along the same line. People who do resolution tests at close distances will hate it, people who shoot artistic close-ups (flowers, etc) will love it, and people who mostly shoot distant objects will wonder what they are talking about. 3

Yes. It has been established it’s softer at 20cm and gets fully sharp at 1m last thing I saw this wasn’t intended to be a macro lens if the guy is spending all his time taking 50cm closeups and not knowing how this lens works - that would be his conclusion Edited September 15, 2019 by colonel

Tina Manley Posted October 13, 2019 Share #39  Posted October 13, 2019 I really don't understand buying a Leica camera and not using a Leica lens. The lens is the most important element! What is the smallest Leica lens for the SL?? I have a T lens but hate the smaller file sizes. I want a full-sized Leica lens but small! The 90/2.0 is very light compared to the others. What is a wide version of that?  Tina
Stuart Richardson Posted October 13, 2019 Share #40 Â Posted October 13, 2019 (edited) I think you came upon one of the reasons this lens is attractive...none of the SL full frame lenses are small...the smallest are the summicrons, each of which is many thousands of dollars, and still not particularly small. I am interested in the Sigma, but I only have the Panasonic S1. Right now I am using Leica S lenses on it, but they are huge and lack AF on this body. I have the stunning Leica 45mm 2.8, but as you might imagine it is quite unwieldy on a 35mm body. It is 900g or so heavier than the Sigma, many times the size and 14 times the price, without giving AF. In general, Leica makes great lenses, but that does not mean that ONLY Leica makes great lenses. Some people are just as interested in Leica's philosophy of camera design and handling as they are in the lenses. I would agree that if that lens is your bread and butter, it probably makes sense to get a Leica one, as they are so good. For me, I am looking at the sigma more as a everyday, compact lens to use on the S1, which I mostly use for video. If I need something heavier duty, I have it.
