I think John was specifically referring to his experience at a recent photo walk sponsored by Leica DC, certainly not the universe of M users. Jk1002 Posted August 4, 2019 Share #23 Posted August 4, 2019 I think the announcement of the S3 and then the very public delay may have impacted the taste for risk Leica has. Maybe we see announcement and nearly immediate launch. Also, I could see that the S3 delay may have pushed the SL back, not sure how that works with their production lines. jaapv Posted August 4, 2019 Share #24 Posted August 4, 2019 Unlikely. Each camera type has its own team working on it.

But that wouldn’t matter IF Leica wanted, say for marketing purposes, to always have the S system lead in the internal MP race, if only for a short while. The timing of production readiness and the timing of announcements and release dates need not coincide precisely, although in an ideal world all would line up nicely. johnbuckley Posted August 6, 2019 Share #26 Posted August 6, 2019 I am told that the SL 2 will be shipping in 2019, but late in the year. Good source, whom I would rather not expose. But as he put it, available by the end of Autumn. Which is Christmastime. That would mean five years between the SL and the SL2. Even by Leica's very deliberate approach, which I respect, that's a long time -- especially given the pace of developments in this sector of the market.

Nope, four years from the launch Oct 20 2015. Same 4 year-ish cycle for recent Ms as well as the S. Jeff

Jeff S Posted August 7, 2019 Share #29 Posted August 7, 2019 “4 year-ish” was the comment. Nobody is ever sure with Leica. Jeff
