ryingg Posted July 26, 2019 Share #1  Posted July 26, 2019 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I've got a light leak in only a few photos interspersed throughout each roll in the exact same spot on my M3. Photo edited to highlight leak shape. Any idea on the source of the leak? Thanks! Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 Hi ryingg, Take a look here M3 Light Leak. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted July 26, 2019 Share #2  Posted July 26, 2019 You need to check the film. Does the leak appear only within the exposed frame are or is it over the whole film area, i.e. where the sprocket holes are? It is likely to be either slack shutter curtains or a light leak from the viewfinder area - there are fabric seals which seem to disintegrate over time. TomB_tx Posted July 26, 2019 Share #3 Â Posted July 26, 2019 Orange color may indicate a leak through the back of the film - so check the seals around the back flap.
plaidshirts Posted July 26, 2019 Share #4  Posted July 26, 2019 Based on the photo it looks like the leak is on the top (hinge side) of the back door. Tape the gap and test it with film to confirm.
ryingg Posted July 26, 2019 Author Share #5 Â Posted July 26, 2019 Thanks everyone! I just checked the film and the leak is indeed over the sprocket holes too, so I'll try taping over the back. Does anyone know what a reasonable estimate for repair would be if it's indeed the back door seal?

You'd have to contact him to verify, but I'd think light seal replacement would be included. He did my M4 and several vintage lenses in the past to my satisfaction. http://www.yyecamera.com/price_m_body.html
