HuntingSand Posted July 10, 2019 Share #1 Posted July 10, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Greetings, I just wanted to see if there are folk here from London/UK. I'll be in the city 7/29-31, and it would be nice to join up with some fellow Leica owners for an afternoon tea and perhaps some street shooting together. Thanks. Advertisement Posted July 10, 2019 Posted July 10, 2019 Hi HuntingSand, Take a look here In London end of this month (July). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
farnz Posted July 11, 2019 Share #2 Posted July 11, 2019 Hi, Thomas, What part of London will you be staying in? 29th - 31st July is Monday to Wednesday I think. I work full time so I would probably only be able to meet up in the early evening after work depending on what I've got on but I'll know better closer to the date. If you're interested in afternoon tea then I recommend going to the Ritz Hotel (but you'll need to book in advance although it's certainly worth it) or The Wolesley restaurant, which is very close to The Ritz. Pete.

Pete. Pete, Thank you for responding. I am staying down in Greenwich. Thanks for recommending the Ritz and the Wolesley, I will check it out. Kostas and Paul and maybe Mike are saying they'd be happy to get together, too, so I'm calibrating things as the date gets closer. Early evening would be totally fine with me, I'll be totally jetlagged anyway (coming from California). Thomas
Jon Schick Posted July 12, 2019 Share #4 Posted July 12, 2019 I'm also London based and work full time but meeting in the early evening would be a possibility. Greenwich is a nice place to stay - you've chosen well!

Many moons ago, as an exchange high school student from Germany, I was put up with a family in Croydon, so I thought maybe, for nostalgia's sake, I'll stay there again. After some deliberation, I decided Greenwich was a more prudent choice.
farnz Posted July 12, 2019 Share #6 Posted July 12, 2019 As someone who lives in Croydon yours was a very prudent choice. I don't know how many years it is since you were in Croydon but it has changed a lot, and not for the good unfortunately. Pete.
Jon Schick Posted July 12, 2019 Share #7 Posted July 12, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was going to say it takes a special kind of person to be nostalgic about Croydon! Used to work there and still travel through it quite regularly but I'm not sure I'd choose it for a London stay.
farnz Posted July 12, 2019 Share #8 Posted July 12, 2019 There are still some pleasant nooks and crannies but you really have to watch your back these days. Its nickname is "The Cronx". Pete. 1

farnz Posted July 27, 2019 Share #14 Posted July 27, 2019 (edited) Hi Everyone, Since no meeting point has been set and the OP is staying in Greenwich, I suggest meeting in Greenwich at Bill's Cafe at the triangular junction of Greenwich High Road and Romney Road on Monday 29th July at 6 pm. It's a large, two-storey cafe and we can work out what do from there. Meeting venue here. Looking forward to meeting everyone (look for Leicas on the table and you'll have found us). If anyone wants to swap mobile numbers in case of problems then please PM me. Would anyone intending to come along please drop a note here to prevent me having to endure coffee with myself while waiting for nobody to arrive? 😅 Pete. @Red Dot Cameras @HuntingSand @Jon Schick Edited July 27, 2019 by farnz 1

Jon Schick Posted July 29, 2019 Share #17 Posted July 29, 2019 Sorry I'll be unable to join you. Won't be out of work in time to get to you until much later. Hope to make it on another occasion. Have a great evening. Jon
HuntingSand Posted July 31, 2019 Author Share #18 Posted July 31, 2019 Thank you so much, Pete, for organizing this get-together. The walk along the river and after-hours through the maritime museum was very enjoyable. I haven't had a chance to download my images yet, but from cursory glance there are quite a few keepers. Visit California and I'd be happy to host you all and return the favor. Thomas
farnz Posted July 31, 2019 Share #19 Posted July 31, 2019 Hi Thomas, It was very nice to meet you and I'm glad you enjoyed our wander. Finding the props for the film shoot at the Maritime Museum was a pleasant surprise and I'd like to claim the credit for arranging it but, alas, I didn't. Ivor sent me before and after pictures the next day of a plate of pie 'n' mash he was having in Romford. I couldn't see any luminous green liquor 'gravy' though. 😄 It was great to see Doug and Ivor too so thank you for making the effort. Pete.
