little red dot on the lens barrel

Dear all,

I lost the little red dot (on the lens barrel to identify the beginning og the bayonet) on my (apart from that) cosmetically near perfect 45 year old silver summicron 50.

Is it possible to buy one, and where ? or to have it done ?

it depends if it broke or came out completely

mine broke (on a 90 TE) and it would have been difficult to fix it at home. The folks at Leica were kinda enough to do it

Call Leica. They used to send out replacements for free.

There are also two different sizes of lens dots. I’ve had to replace one of each, so verify the size. In the USA DAG has both sizes.

Hello Didier,

Welcome to the Forum.

If you do not need the red dot to be raised so that there is a tactile component for situations like changing lenses in the dark:

You might use a red permanent marker or a small amount of red nail polish in the space where the dot was. This makes it easier to visually orient the lens by simply aligning the red indicator with the release button when putting a lens on the camera.

I've cut the red heads on straight stick pins in half with a sharp knife - works well.

I still have a spare red dot lying somewhere around. When I lost my one, Leica Netherlands sent me two types. One fitted, the other waits til I loose another one.
