I don’t know about respected. That’s not important to me. I just received my Arte de mano case. It’s beautiful and expensive. It’s part of my experience with the Q2. Every time I pick up the camera its a delight. Seriously, its a joy. Its precision and it captures excellent images when I point it in the right direction and set the controls properly. The case protects the camera very well.

I sold my Q after 3 1/2 years of continuous use. It too was pristine. Very appreciated by the buyer.

Its a life philosophy I guess. I take very careful care of my stuff. I appreciate having the nice things. Admittedly they are tools, but for me there’s more to photography than the final images. It’s the experience of using a great camera AND capturing memories I can enjoy long afterwards.

That’s expresses my feelings exactly!!

For me it is about function, feel and protection. I had a Lim's on my Q that included a nice integrated grip.

Since I either have my camera in my hand or in my bag I decided to forego the leather case on my Q2 and use the Leica handgrip instead.

Never even thought about respect or lameness regarding a case - I'm out of the loop on photography fashion does and don'ts.  But it's an expensive camera and I'd rather not beat it up.

I always used the "Everyready" cases on my Leicas. Except the R8/9 which didn't have that option and that always bothered me. My R6.2 still looks new.  I don't have a stay-on case for my Canon 5D either, but I keep the RRS L-plate on it which provides at least some protection along with hoods and filters on the lenses.

Some people don't mind the road-worn look.  I like to keep the camera body protected so that if I go to sell it, I can get a better price - because I know I will eventually be upgrading to something.

IRandom nailed most of my thoughts in the 1st line .... plus I am a tripod/monopod user and Lim’s case has arca mount integrated which pushes function even further from me with my Q2 use.

I just received my Luigi half case with deluxe strap. I could not be happier. Luigi's workmanship and quality are top-notch. The fit is perfect, and the feel in my hand sublime. Well worth the money. Here are a few quick iPhone pics for those who might be interested. I opted for the three openings on the bottom for the battery and SD card doors. Luigi shipped very quickly. It took four days from ordering to delivery, and that was over a weekend.

What I still not really get: the only part of my q2 that actually would benefit from protection are the upper edges. That is the only place where my Q was worn out. All half cases I see do not protect this part of the camera...

I think of it as active and passive protection. The passive being what you describe — covering places on the camera for safety of the equipment. Active protection, in my mind, would be the better grip I can get on the camera with a case, which will lessen the possibility of dropping it.

Just my two euros.

I agree with that active plan - I always keep the strap around my neck or wrapped twice around my wrist and held in my hand if I have to take it off my neck.  Good habit.

I have the Q, I use the Leica half case ("protector", leather) which protects the upper (side) edges and which protects around the strap connections too.

Experience please with Arte de Mano?

On May 22 I ordered an Arte de Mano case online. I realize these things are handcrafted and didn't expect to receive it before the 5-6 weeks quoted. On 7/3, in response to an email I sent inquiring about delivery, I received the following reply:

Sorry for the delay.

Your order will be shipped out in a couple of days.

It is sure that it will be out in this week.

We are very sorry for taking a long time on your order and thank you for your patience.

I inquired about tracking information last Tuesday, and on Thursday 7/11 received this reply:

We are very sorry for the delay.

Your order will be shipped out on next Monday.

We are trying our best to speed up on our work process, but there is still some delay on it.

We are sincerely sorry for the inconvenience again.

We are sure your order will be shipped out on next Monday.

I don't want to be a jackass about it, but I'm considering putting the charge in contest should they not ship it on Monday. Guess I'm just looking for reassurance that they are an upstanding, service oriented business who will (hopefully soon) get around to shipping the piece I paid for going on two months ago.

ADM is a very, very reputable company. I’ve purchased two fully custom cases and straps from them. Always very professional. They even noticed I was charged twice for shipping on a case and strap and initiated the refund without me saying a word. I think the Q2 success is more than they had planned and its pushed out deliveries. Have a little more patience and you'll be delighted when your case arrives.
