etienne_werner Posted July 29, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted July 29, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Â Here a typical Dutch landscape with the M8 and CV12mm. I'm very much in my sepia period . Â Kind regards, Â Etienne
Advertisement Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 Hi etienne_werner, Take a look here Dutch landscape. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Photoskeptic Posted July 29, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted July 29, 2007 really nice, ettiene. Personally I believe this image would work "cool" or "dark", but the sepia gives it an air of mystery. If you don't mind me asking, how did you acheive such lush sepia? I can do pretty well using duotones, but not really approach what you have here. Of course, if this is a film shot, no explanation needed
Photoskeptic Posted July 29, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted July 29, 2007 Okay, NOW I read the info that preceded the image! Duh!
richam Posted July 29, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted July 29, 2007 Excellent composition. I like the way the lines lead to the windmill. Even though it's a sometimes overused Photography 101 technique, it works well here. The sky/clouds obviously took some patience to get just the right moment. How did you get the sky contrast? I'll bet it took some channel mixing to get right.
hsw Posted July 29, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted July 29, 2007 Great capture of that dramatic sky. I'm impressed by the sharpness of the 12mm lens. Â Thanks for sharing, Henry

stuny Posted July 29, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted July 29, 2007 Etienne - Â Excellent! Terrific moodiness due to the toning and overal tone, lovely composition, details, tonal range and contrast.
etienne_werner Posted July 30, 2007 Author Share #10  Posted July 30, 2007 Thank you all for looking and the very nice comments. richam: I'll bet it took some channel mixing to get right.Yes that's right. It is my preferred technique for making B&W. Photoskeptic: If you don't mind me asking, how did you acheive such lush sepia? I can do pretty well using duotones, but not really approach what you have here.I am using an action called "Johny's B&W Package" which has a setting for sepia. It can also do the B&W conversion if you like, though I find I prefer to do it myself.
samwells Posted July 30, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted July 30, 2007 Eteinne: Superb shot...lovely layered variations in texture, from the reeds, thru the water, to the sky. Thanks for sharing. cheers: Sam
Photoskeptic Posted July 30, 2007 Share #12 Â Posted July 30, 2007 Etienne, I "Googled" for the Johnny's reference, but all I come up with is someone on another website citing Johnny's. Do you have a web address for it? BTW, I use Channel Mixer for most of my bw conversions, but recently tried some of the new adjustments in ACR 4.1, then just de-saturated and the results were very pleasing. Hi John, Â I checked his site (Jakerlund Graphics) but it states that it will be back online soon. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to do this, though if I recall properly the actions is freeware. I put a zip file on one of my sites. You can download it from here: Index of /~wfa/download Kind regards, Â Etienne
macos Posted July 31, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted July 31, 2007 A really classical image. Terrific composition and lighting. I am sure a large format print would be an eyecatcher at the wall. Â BR Marcus
