Greg Haag Posted June 29, 2019 Share #1 Posted June 29, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am looking for a smallish nice (maybe leather) backpack for S007 w lens and room for extra lens. Does anyone have one they would recommend? Thanks in advance, Greg

Photon42 Posted June 29, 2019 Share #2 Posted June 29, 2019 I don't have a leather backpack, but the Peak Design 20l everyday works very well. The smaller Wandrd works well too. The latter in my eyes has the better carrying straps, the former excels in flexibility and accessibility. Both are well made. Let me know if you have more specific questions. The Peak Design may be slightly lower profile.
Jeff S Posted June 29, 2019 Share #3 Posted June 29, 2019 (edited) Never tried it, but the Billingham Rucksack 25 looks nice and well built. Canvas and leather. Jeff Edited June 29, 2019 by Jeff S
albireo_double Posted June 29, 2019 Share #4 Posted June 29, 2019 I have a Wotancraft Commander which I find stylish and practical, with the proviso that the harness is not really comfortable in long hiking scenarios - it is a bit narrow and tends to slip. But it works fine as a general travel rucksack, for city breaks etc where a more "tech" looking pack would look out of place. But it is very expensive. When longer hiking is involved, I like the Nya Evo Fjord 36. Another good and stylish option is the WANDRD Prvke (there are two sizes available, 21 and 31 litre) - the harness is really comfortable.

The Wotancraft Commader received an update more recently, which may solve your issues, in case you bought the first version. It is however heavier than both alternatives and also quite a bit larger. The Wandrd ist is one I mentioned as well - and seems to fit the bill of the OP, other than no leather is involved.
dave.gt Posted June 30, 2019 Share #6 Posted June 30, 2019 Greg, Great news! I spent the last two years on the same search and with three systems across MFD and full frame, I have been delighted with my two backpacks from F-stop. The H5D-50c fits in the old Satori with room to spare. The new offerings are even better. I love the bigger Satori and walk our neighborhood for exercise with it fully loaded (30-40#) daily. The smaller backpack is the Guru Ultralight. Wow! I was very surprised with how light and capable this backpack is. Pick several sizes of small and Medium ICU inserts, and you can have a 5-10# backpack for full frame kits, or as much as a flexible 20-30# MFD kit. There are endless ways to configure these packs. You will not be disappointed. For me, I am set for life:):):)
dave.gt Posted June 30, 2019 Share #7 Posted June 30, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Oh, and if you only want to carry a single camera and lens with a few accessories, I prefer the Billingham Hadley Pro and the Billingham backpack is both small and elegant. It will be fun checking all the offerings out there. Enjoy the search!!!
dave.gt Posted June 30, 2019 Share #8 Posted June 30, 2019 (edited) One more consideration, backpacks are an acquired taste for me. If I were in a professional environment like you, I would not hesitate to look at leather shoulder bags from Oberwerth! https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1180211-REG/oberwerth_m_ld_216_munchen_photo_bag_large.html?ap=y&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8KiVz52R4wIVB7XACh1XMgeTEAQYASABEgJVWfD_BwE&smp=y There are a lot of choices and they all lend a certain professional look. ynp Posted June 30, 2019 Share #9 Posted June 30, 2019 (edited) I use several f-Stop inserts and they fit into a lot of generic backpacks. The smaller ICU can contain my S2P and two lenses. Stuart Richardson Posted June 30, 2019 Share #10 Posted June 30, 2019 I will play Devil's Advocate and recommend any old backpack. If you are only using an S and an extra lens, just pop the extra lens in the lens case it came with and drop it in your favorite backpack. If you do not have any backpack you like, I have been very happy with a Patagonia Refugio 28L pack that I bought in 2013. It has held up very well to lots of use and abuse, both as a camera bag and as a travel bag. It will hold a laptop, tripod in the side compartment, and has good, comfortable straps. It does not have a full suspension, but it does have a chest strap which helps if you ever want to carry a small tripod or hike. The design seems to have been slightly updated, but Patagonia is quite serious about making good, durable gear, and their commitment to the environment is one of the strongest out there for a large corporation. For me that is important at least.

Yes, mine is one of the very first Commanders made - I pre-ordered it shortly after it had been announced. I can see what they did with the harness - the connecting chest strap is the key; something I always wish my rucksack had. Other than that, it is very easy to get to gear, given that it has zipped compartments on both sides. Also enough pockets for wallet, keys etc. And an Ipad Pro 12.9 inch fits with no problem. albertknappmd Posted July 3, 2019 Share #14 Posted July 3, 2019 I have used many backpacks over the years but always come back to GURA GEAR. The Batafflae 30L is ideal for 2 cameras and many lenses. The smaller sized ones are great. They are beautifully made and indestructible. They keep the sand, dust and rain out unlike Billinghams.. The problem is that the Batafflae is now defunct and the new or rather re-introduced Kibokko v.2 is a tad too small for the S. You could put in in sideways and it should fit. I have gone all over the world with the battafflae and it is exceptional. Just got a new one of ebay and will use when this one dies..if it ever does.. Jeff S Posted July 3, 2019 Share #15 Posted July 3, 2019 (edited) I’m rarely a backpack user, but the now discontinued Gura Gear Bataflae (not the big one) is the one I keep. It can still be found used with some research, or maybe new sitting lonely at some small dealer. It came in various colors and sizes. relms Posted July 4, 2019 Share #16 Posted July 4, 2019 (edited) Greg, I like this one from Wotancraft. It is a bit on the pricey side, but your grandson can pass it along to his son. It is a well-made backpack, deserving of a Leica S007. Edited July 4, 2019 by relms

I ordered direct from Wotancraft, and as I recall I received the backpack within a couple of weeks time after placing the order. It came beautifully packaged, and I knew from the way it was packaged that I had received a quality product. That has certainly proven to be true, from the leather to the canvas, to the zippers, to the inserts, and to the snaps - all top-notch.

Jeff S Posted July 4, 2019 Share #20 Posted July 4, 2019 (edited) Nice, but I took you literally when you requested a ‘smallish’ backpack. Seems massive, and heavy... https://www.stevehuffphoto.com/2018/08/24/wotancraft-commander-backpack-more-info-and-a-closer-look/ My preference is to carry a tripod vertically, and without blocking storage. But surely durable and well constructed. Jeff Edited July 4, 2019 by Jeff S
