I'm not;  it might be practical for experienced users, but this forum also caters to prospective owners, who will be looking for specific Q2 images.

As for pinning threads, Andreas has requested to keep the number of pinned threads down. We do pin interesting new threads from time to time, but the pin will be removed after a while. Each thread will be judged individually.
If you want to keep a thread on top despite it not being pinned, just post in it.

Before I saw a second page of this thread, with jaapv's response, I had already PMed Andreas. I still think they need to be combined: they are effectively the same cameras except for the sensor. At the very least the Q should be pinned as long as the Q2 is.

I do not have any strong philosophical views either way, and am happy with what the group decides

I have to say that personally I prefer to have them separated as I tend to only read threads of cameras/lenses that I either have or am interested in. I do tend to look more regularly at threads of lenses that stay on top out of "merit" than those that stay on top because they are pinned and in fact there are threads that are pinned that I have not looked at for months, if at all

The forum is equally titled for the Q and Q2, would be nice if both cameras were therefore treated equally within it would it not? Merge, pin both or pin neither but not one over the other. Like one or two others have said, I’ll just drift off probably if it goes Q2 centric. No great loss to the forum, but disappointing to me.

Hello Jaap,

First of all, thank you so much for your response, really appreciated.

- Concerning the number of pinned threads, I understand that you try to keep them to a minimum, but currently the Q forum is not the one with the most threads:

Other camera forums have more than 3 threads. e.g:

Leica CL / TL / TL2 / T Forum: 4 Pinned threads

Leica M Lenses: 4 Pinned threads

Leica X: 6 Pinned threads

And goes on, not to mention non-specific camera related forums, like the customer related one that has, again, 6 pinned threads..

- Concerning the fact that you update the pinned threads regularly, my understanding is that the pinned threads in each camera model forums can fall in one of two categories: Photo related and news/reviews/e.t.c. To which of these are you referring when you state that they regularly change? Because in the former case, "main" photo threads (camera related photo threads which camera's model is referred to the forum title) are permanently pinned. Also how long is the "a while" before you unpin a thread? I suspect in the case of Q the definition of "a while" is half a decade - as long as Leica makes profit selling the camera? And even so, on several other camera forums, there are photo threads that have been pinned for even longer than that.

I am sorry Jaap, but the way things are currently, this forum is not also for the prospective owners, who will be looking for specific Q2 images. This forum currently caters ONLY to the prospective Q2 owners, or at least, to me, it seems that there is a lot of effort to take the whole forum to this direction.

In any case, I really appreciate that you responded to my request. Your response is valuable.. Can you please confirm that your views on this specific forum represent Andreas views too and that he approves the current state of things? (I am not referring strictly to merging Q and Q2 threads, I am referring to the fact that the Q thread is currently unpinned). Thank you.

Sorry guys, more arguments against merging than for merging as far as I'm concerned.  Two different cameras, two different sensors, two different image threads. As to pinned threads, Andreas has been removing pins recently, and I agree. It clutters up the forum. As I said, if a thread is popular, it doesn't need a pin. If it isn't popular, it doesn't deserve a pin, unless moderation decides it is worthy enough to merit a boost, often only for a limited time. That reminds me, I'll have to review the pins again...

Am I missing something here? Doesn't the T, TL, TL2 have a single thread? I'm not a T guy, but my impression is that these are different sensors,.

And, why are the two M Monochrome photo threads merged? definitely different cameras.

Also, there is one thread for the Panny S1 and S1R, which have different sensors. All R cameras (admittedly not sensors 😁) are on one thread. One can even make the case that the M film camera photo thread should therefore be disaggregated, certainly the ones which have built-in light meters. 😁

Jaap, I disagree. Just on this thread there are 12 arguments for merging and 6 (including yours) for not merging... But I think you made it clear that you have already taken your decision, so I think there is no point to continue arguing about it anymore..
