I would propose a CL or a Q or Q 2.  The CL brings very good image quality and more flexibility with the 18 - 56 lens, the Qs excellent image quality but are more restricted regarding focal length.  Eventually a Huawei P 30 pro would be worth to think about too.  Not the same image quality like the two real cameras mentioned in the first sentence - but good enough for many things and very light and very affordable.

This is a Leica forum, but in addition to the suggestions for its cameras, you might also like to take a look at the Ricoh GR III, if you are happy to travel with a high-quality small camera having a lens with a fixed focal length.

Hello Maria,

Thank you.

Your photos are nice. A lot of them look like they were taken with the equivalent of a 35mm lens or a 50mm lens using 35mm photography equivalents.

There are plenty of cameras that take those lenses or their equivalent in different formats. How much do you want to be involved with the"mechanics" of picture taking? Do you want a camera that makes a lot of decisions for you?  Do you want to make decisions & control a lot of the variables? Or do you want to be able to switch back & forth between your choosing & the camera choosing for you?

Also, what size  & what weight are too big & too much?

Best Regards,

Michael

Hi Michael,  thank you, yes, I like to take photos.

I had used Canon cameras both professional and compact, and in the past 5 years I simply used my iPhone.

I am looking for a small size camera, (not too heavy) (i do not want to have a professional camera again) as I like to have the camera

ready fast when the right moment appears. however I also would like to be able to make decisions and control.

The iPhone was actually quite good, but I would like a bit higher quality photos/videos and more decisions.

Thank you, kind regards, Maria

Hello Maria,

You have a lot to choose from that would meet your expectations. It might be good to go to a place where you can try various models of cameras & lenses to see which most comfortably & most easily both meet your expectations & gives you the ability to develop your interest, in a variety of manners. Some of which you might not have considered yet.

It is interesting how a person can often take most of the photos that they would like to with 1 camera & 1 lens. And some thought.

To expand beyond that becomes more complex as the variety of situations expands. With even finer differentiations requiring  more even more complex equipment.

I do 90% or so of all of the photography that I do with 1 camera with 1 lens (35mm). To do the remaining 10% or so requires a multiple of that equipment. Pretty much of the same that can be done with a camera & a 35mm lens can be done with the same camera & a 50mm lens. Depending on which lens "sees" more like the photographer using it does.  I learned photography with & benefited significantly from using the same camera with a 90mm lens. From where you are standing: Different lenses view a different part of the World that you are looking at.

I do help the camera & lens with a small, solid, table tripod with soft, non-marking slippers. Along with a large ball head & a cable release. They expand my ability to photograph significantly more than a person might think. While storing in a space not much larger than an additional lens. There are Threads on this Forum about how this combination can significantly aid a person's photography with a minimum of added bulk & weight.

Some things to think about.

Best Regards,

Michael

Thank you Michael, much appreciated. I grew up with high quality German products in the belief that German and Swiss quality were the best, but a few years ago I traveled around Japan.. Someone who appreciates the fine details and good quality, certainly loves the Japanese perfection... unbeatable.

kind regards

Maria
