Advertisement Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Hi john79456, Take a look here Hello, & a question: What's your fav Film/Dev?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
leicamann Posted June 26, 2006 Share #2 Posted June 26, 2006 Ok..lets start with my favorite and work to whats actually available. 1)Agfa APX 100/ Rodinal 1:25 / 8min/ 20C/ continous gentle rotation 2) Both Ilford Delta Pro 100 and 400 .. in either Rodinal/Ilfotec or Ilfosol(Ilfosol need to be fresh..it doesn't keep long) 3) the TriX 100 and 400/ D79 There are many "Kodak" fans out there , I am curious how many use Ilford film and Ilford Developers....they give excellent results. Cheers, JRM
Michael-IIIf Posted June 26, 2006 Share #3 Posted June 26, 2006 Ilford FP4 and Ilfosol.
andybarton Posted June 26, 2006 Share #4 Posted June 26, 2006 Delta 100 and Paterson FX-39 (no longer with us, I'm afraid) Ilford DD-X is a nice developer too. Unlike some, I use the times stated on the developer as a guide, but generally stop the development around 30 seconds before "time" (with say a 7 minute developing process). YMMV, of course, and experimenting is part of the fun (just don't experiment with your daughter's wedding shots )
jackart Posted June 26, 2006 Share #5 Posted June 26, 2006 My film is digital and my developer is Adobe Photoshop Elements 3. But I'd like to promote B/W converter, provided by http://www.photo-plugins.com/ It makes possible to simulate different films, like AgfaPan APX Ilford Delta Ilford FP4 Kodak T-Max Kodak Tri-X Also to tone and apply some colour filters. -jaak
stunsworth Posted June 26, 2006 Share #6 Posted June 26, 2006 Tri-X or FP4 in Xtol diluted 1:3. I realised the other week that I haven't taken a single frame on film this year .
erl Posted June 26, 2006 Share #7 Posted June 26, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ilford Delta 100 & 400. Dev in XTOL @ 1:2 or 1:3. Like Steve, film has slipped this year, but my upcoming trip to Morocco will be either 90% or 100% film. Still debating whether I have room for the RD-1 alongside two M bodies and thus share the lenses.
martha Posted June 26, 2006 Share #8 Posted June 26, 2006 Agfa APX 100 in rodinal 1:25--too bad neither are available any longer--but gave me the very best results EVER! Have gone to T-Max 400 in T-Max dev. at manufacturer's recommendations. I really like the ability to push the T-Max to 800 with no change in development times. johnbailey Posted June 26, 2006 Share #9 Posted June 26, 2006 I understand that Rodinal is available again, certainly in the UK. http://www.silverprint.co.uk/
treeplanter Posted June 26, 2006 Share #10 Posted June 26, 2006 Efke 25 in Rodinal, 1:200 for 17 minutes at 20 degrees C. Agitate first 30 seconds and then 5 seconds every other minute. For fast films, I like Ilford HP5+ in Xtol 1:1. Jim Bielecki

cbretteville Posted June 26, 2006 Share #13 Posted June 26, 2006 Fuji Neopan Acros in FX-39 diluted 1+19 for 9 minutes at 20 degrees C. Fast film favourite is HP5+ in D76 diluted 1+1 - Carl
andybarton Posted June 26, 2006 Share #14 Posted June 26, 2006 Can you still get FX-39, Carl?
Dan States Posted June 26, 2006 Share #15 Posted June 26, 2006 With all the APX comments one has to wonder why Agfa bit the dust.... I've landed on Fuji Acros in D76 after using just about everything out there in medium and slow speed films. It has great shadow detail, minimal grain and a better tonal curve than Tmax100. It can be sucessfully developed in nearly anything, including Rodinal, but seems to like D76 the best. On a practical note it is also very easy to load because the leader fingers at the spool end of the roll break off cleanly when removing the spool. Kodak still uses tape and it's a pain in the rear...it also can create a static discharge. Ilford films tend to tear or jam easily when loading on a JOBO reel. I have tried Adox films and frankly I find them to be flat, grainy and low in resolving power. Even the 25 speed gets blown away by Acros in grain, resolution and tonal range. I used PanF50 for years and got great results, but it is really a 32 speed film, and is not tolerant of mis-exposure or development extension. Best wishes Dan
spydrxx Posted June 27, 2006 Share #16 Posted June 27, 2006 I'm a diehard D76 user...probably because it was always readily available & gave consistently good results. On the film side I do a lot of work with Tri-X and Plus-X, beginning to use Pan F and FP4 also. I used to push development 1-2 stops, but now I most frequently use the times in the Massive Development Chart as long as I'm using the rated ISO. With Rodinal making its comeback, I'll probably give it a try during the autumn.
norm_snyder Posted June 27, 2006 Share #17 Posted June 27, 2006 Lately, it's been Ilford HP5+, pushed, and developed in T-max developer, or the Ilford equivalent. Acufine, if I need even more speed, for low light, theatrical and club photograpy. Who says blown highlights are the exclusive province of digital. wbesz Posted June 27, 2006 Share #18 Posted June 27, 2006 Delta 100 and Delta 400 with DD-X developer (but I am open minded, of course).
