I had the SL and 50mm 1.4 lens. The lens AF performed terribly in complex light situations.  I returned it after my trip. It is also big and makes the SL very cumbersome.  I would match the SL body to a smaller SL lens. The 24-70mm was my go to setup. I also have the Q, M10P and Mono 246. The Q2 would be a good compromise although I miss the versatility of a 24-70 zoom at times. I think the Q2 would be excellent if your primary interest is street photography or landscape.  It has limitations because of the focal length so I think it’s important to consider your type of picture taking so it makes a good fit for you. Otherwise, you will be frustrated.

It seems to me that you have already made up your mind.

I have almost made up my mind, yes. The other camera I've been tossing about in my head is a Hasselblad X1D, which would cost me about double the price compared to the Q2 with the lens I want, and I question that I'd get enough use out of it given the specific niche of uses I have in mind. The Q2 is a broader spectrum choice and would likely do very well across a wide range of my needs. And it's a good bit smaller and lighter, which means that I would carry it more (and more easily).

I retired the 24-90 because it’s (indoor size & low light) performance was poor.  I then moved over to the SL & M 35/1.4 Summilux, which is amazing for indoor  low-light....but MF on a complex AF seems a waste.  I now have the lovely Q2 but I’m still missing a good low light portrait solution.

Hmm. I was perfectly happy using the SL with mostly my R lenses, although I had the SL24-90 and SL90-280 as well (and of course, it worked with with all my Leica M lenses too). AF is never more than a convenience for me, and I find it only really works for me on any camera a modest amount of the time.

For head and shoulder portrait use, the SL with the Summicron-R 90mm lens was superb. The Summilux--R 50mm and/or the Pentax-L 43mm f/1.9 Limited are my choices for portrait work with the CL now; the 'Lux-R 90 is a bit long unless I'm looking for that flatter perspective.

I sold the SL and the two zooms last year when I realized that I was just not going to carry equipment like that any more. It's too much for what I want to do now that I've retired. The CL proves a better choice for my needs, and the imaging qualities are virtually identical between it and the SL, M-D 262, and M-P 240 modulo which lens I'm using, of course. The SL and M-D have a slight advantage in sensitivity at the uppermost ISO settings, but I'm only rarely in that range of settings; but the CL is no slouch at all up to about ISO 3200 and 6400. This exposure is at ISO 2500:

Leica CL + Elmarit-R 28mm f/2.8
ISO 2500 @ f/4 @ 1/20

I'm hard pressed to find any noise in it, even at full resolution.

Lovely image from the CL..... but also a situation that my Q2 would seem to excel at?

No reason it shouldn't.

The example was to show noise at ISO 2500 on the CL's APS-C sensor: It's very very low noise. On the CL, the eqFOV with an R28mm lens is 42mm so with the Q2, you'd have the framing set to 35 or 50 mm for equivalent FoV: it would be captured at 30 or 15 MPixel resolution, respectively. For portrait work, a 50 to 60 mm lens does a lovely job. This passport photo was made with the Pentax-L 43mm f/1.9 Limited and the CL @ ISO 400:

With a Q2, I'd make the same photo at 50mm framing, 15 MPixel resolution would be more than enough for the intended output by far!

I'll be keeping my 56mm f1.2 FUJI X-T20 combo (85mm equivalent FF) to compliment the shorter fields of view offered by the Q2 that I'll be picking up next week. This will give me two superb compact bodies with providing 28, 35, 50 (Q2 with cropping) & 85mm.  Should cover 95% of my needs.

The X1D with 90mm cost me 6999 euro from Kamera Express. Was a very good price! But it was also my choice to complement the Q for travel - i sold it when i got the Q2, as I never used it much for the portraiture i was planning to do..

My plus one is now a Nikon Z7 which I love as much as the Q2 but different reasons.  The ability to change the lens is number 1. I also like the focus stacking capability.  I also have a Fuji XPro 3 on order as I have always loved the Fuiji film look.  Love having options.

M246 + 50mm Cron Apo

The above would be a good choice as a compliment to a Q2.  So would an M10-P with a 50 Summilux ASPH or the 75mm Summicron.

Don't dismiss the 50mm focal length for portraits, though - it is quite capable and often overlooked for that role.  With the Q2's 28 and a 50 'lux, you can cover a lot of photographic territory.
