I'm curious about the roof of the main house.  Thanks; the roof of the main house is a thatched roof (same for the barn). Properly maintained these roofs last between 30 and 60 years before the straw needs to be replaced. In the 20 years we live here we've had various part of the roof replaced; it's a pleasure to watch these specialists at work. Normally, we have the whole roof cleaned every 3-4 years. In the area we live there are still a lot of houses and barns with this kind of roofing; in the past it was a sign of poverty (people could nog afford roofing tiles), these days that's no longer the case.
