AnikiMu Posted May 24, 2019 Share #1 Posted May 24, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I noticed this fact: file with number in camera: 1001000, next one with: 1010001. A new folder with 101 has been created. I was expecting 1001001, knowing from the instruction manual p.124, I quote: "The next four digits denote the sequential file number. Once file number 9999 is reached, then a new folder will be automatically created, in which the file numbering begins at 0001 again." Let me know if you meet the same issue! Advertisement Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 Hi AnikiMu, Take a look here Q2 file numbering question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marchyman Posted May 24, 2019 Share #2 Posted May 24, 2019 1000 images per folder... or maybe 999. At least that is the way my Q works.
cldp Posted May 27, 2019 Share #3 Posted May 27, 2019 I spoke to a Tech at Leica, NJ. He said that this was discovered in the Q and is not the way the manual says it's supposed to work (nor is it the way the M-series count). He was surprised that it wasn't fixed in the Q2. Perhaps a Firmware update will revert back to normal Leica numbering. For now, it must be lived with.

LexS Posted May 30, 2019 Share #5 Posted May 30, 2019 (edited) In an older thread (februari?) this was said about the numbering (in Q FW2, 3, 3.1): Images are stored in folders of 1000 (or is it 999) images. Every time you "reset" the number you jump to the next folder. After installing new software the files start at L1000001 in folder 100LEICA. Resetting the numbering will create folder 101LEICA with an image of L1010001. Reset again and you get folder 102LEICA with image L1020001. If you've taken 15,xxx pictures your card will have folder 115LEICA. Do the reset trick 16 times to start using folder 116LEICA and image number L1160001. Or do nothing if monotonic image numbers are not important to you. After installing FW3.1: menu page 4, line 4 Reset Image Numbering Ik had wat "issues" (handling mistakes) and found this as "solution": --------- -- In my Q (delivered with FW3): after a date fault (again to 2015 date) the numbering went to L101....after install of FW3.1 the numbering again went to L100... so I had to do two resets to arrive at L102... Frame37 Posted November 22, 2020 Share #6 Posted November 22, 2020 A Q that I am thinking of buying has the file number L1110001 so this would be over 100,000 pictures taken, right?

mpogorzelski Posted November 22, 2020 Share #10 Posted November 22, 2020 If in doubt, ask for a .dng or .jpg file straight from the camera and check the number of photos taken.

AndrewDD Posted November 22, 2020 Share #12 Posted November 22, 2020 There is no way of knowing. It resets every time there's a firmware upgrade, and you can reset it manually any time.

Trankster Posted April 30, 2021 Share #14 Posted April 30, 2021 With the latest Q2 firmware update 3.1, is the file and folder numbering reset to 1001000?

Answered my own question, YES. After a firmware update the file and image number is reset. There does not seem to be a way to get back to the last image #. Nothing in the manual addresses this either. The workaround found here seems to be to take a shot, reset the image number in Menu 4, repeat taking a shot, reset number...over and over until I finally get to a new folder and image number 1060000. My prior image was 1050048, not because of thousands of images, but because for every system update I must to go through this silly routine to avoid duplicate photo file names. I would like to see folder option like my Sony; Standard; all images dumped in one folder numerically or Date Format; every day a date folder is created automatically when first shot taken. This is repeated at any day you use the camera. That way you know where you been on a particular day and don’t spend time searching. Can’t be difficult to do this in a firmware. Takes ages to find groups of images to download from my Q2.
