rextilleon Posted May 13, 2019 Share #1 Posted May 13, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've borrowed a friends Q. Really impressed with the camera but I had one question. When using AF, is there anyway to automatically bring the green focus box back to the center of the frame. I can do this with my Fuji X100F by pressing in on the joy stick. Thanks--I'm seriously thinking of buying one of these.

I think you'll find that a quick double tap anywhere on the rear screen should do that. Stephen 1

Just tried it. It’s been bugging me since I left Fuji.

Leica Guy Posted June 11, 2019 Share #6 Posted June 11, 2019 I’m not aware of any button push that will return the focus point to center screen. Just tapping the LCD does it. Of course you could always move it using the four-way controller.
DexL Posted June 12, 2019 Share #7 Posted June 12, 2019 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for the double tab tip! Maybe return to center at startup could be another firmware request. Edited June 12, 2019 by DexL
PaulJS Posted June 12, 2019 Share #8 Posted June 12, 2019 You can’t on the Q2, drives me nuts.......
rextilleon Posted June 12, 2019 Author Share #9 Posted June 12, 2019 Thanks for the explanations--coming from the Fuji world, I would merely depress the joystick to get the box back to center. Would love to have the ability to do this on the Leica.
Leica Guy Posted June 12, 2019 Share #10 Posted June 12, 2019 1 hour ago, PaulJS said: You can’t on the Q2, drives me nuts....... It works perfectly on my Q2. Double tap and the focus point or area goes to center screen. It needs to be in either Spot or Field AF Mode.

I think this is a "feature" that is really useful sometimes. Just imagine this situation: You shoot a series of portraits and want the left eye to be in focus and the face in the middle of the frame. Of course, you shift the focus box away from the centre (to the eye). Wouldn't it really bother you if you had to find that same spot for that focus box every time you have a break and turn the camera off. I prefer being able to turn off the camera from time to time (...when shooting a wedding? ...in a studio with a fixed setup?) to save battery power, knowing that for the next portrait, the focus box is still where I need it for the next shot. Besides, I think that double-tapping the screen is much easier and faster than turning the camera off and on and wait for the restart (although that restart is really fast). jimbn Posted June 12, 2019 Share #12 Posted June 12, 2019 After the double tap you can fix the focus point via Menu-Focusing-Touch AF. I use my left eye, in German "Ein Linkseinblicker" always difficult with Leica M. Now with the Q2 my nose too often chooses a focus point in the bottom left corner. The touch sensitivity of the screen is imo a superfluous function unless the sensitivity can be set and adjusted separately. On the M8 M9 and M240 I didn't miss it. jeff_m Posted June 14, 2019 Share #13 Posted June 14, 2019 I only use the Q2 in EVF mode so no LCD image on the back. Is there a quick way to move the center focus point for this set-up?
rextilleon Posted June 14, 2019 Author Share #14 Posted June 14, 2019 I think only with the directional arrows and that a manual operation--you have to guide it.

I use extended EVF mode. Often I find myself looking through the viewfinder and at the same time double-tapping on the (probably) black screen. Of course nothing happens... tk
