Learner Posted May 2, 2019 Share #1 Posted May 2, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been charging the Q2 battery for about 6 hours.... 80% was achieved fairly quickly... less than two hours. The 80% light is still showing... Should it not go out when full charge is achieved?

IkarusJohn Posted May 2, 2019 Share #2 Posted May 2, 2019 We had a member here for a while who used this forum as a substitute for getting off his backside and reading the manual. It got old very quickly. I don't have a Q2, but I suspect its charger is the same as all other Leica chargers - you get a green light until it achieves 80%, then you get the additional light (from memory). With a new battery, charge it overnight, run it flat, then charge it overnight - battery performance will improve quite quickly. The lights are indicative of 80% only - they seem to do their own thing. They don't go out. I'm sure the online manual will give a more accurate description ...

The SL, CL and TL2 chargers all behave differently. - CL: continuous green light till it's charged, when it goes out. No 80% light. - TL2: red light till it's charged; it's still charging so I can't remember what happens then - I think it goes green. No 80% light. - SL: green flashing light while charging, with a secondary light for 80% charge; green light goes continuous at 100%. I find this random variability mildly but regularly irritating in a way that only Leica manages to achieve (like lens caps and hoods). I can't always remember which charger behaves in which way, and can't be bothered to find and check the manual each time. Yes, I can guess, but if I accidentally put a charged battery in, I get confused because I'm unsure what the lights are telling me. I doubt Leica makes its own chargers, but even if a series of different third party factories in China makes them based on a standard model, I would have thought LED behaviour would form part of the specification for custom adaptation. IkarusJohn Posted May 2, 2019 Share #5 Posted May 2, 2019 I confess, I never really look. I just chuck the dead battery in the charger overnight.

LexS Posted May 2, 2019 Share #7 Posted May 2, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) If the charging takes "too" long the first time: disconnect the charger, take the battery out, then put the battery in again, and connect the charger. Matsaly Posted May 2, 2019 Share #8 Posted May 2, 2019 There are aftermarket battery chargers that may offer a solution to your concerns. I bought the Nitecore USB battery charger for my Q. IMHO its a far more elegant and versatile solution than the stock Leica charger. Disclosure- I have no commercial or financial interest in Nitecore or any other aftermarket brand. Just sharing my "users" experience. Miami Leica store has the various Nitecore chargers on their website. https://leicastoremiami.com/collections/charging-solutions/products/nitecore-usb-battery-charger-ulsl-for-leica-sl-typ-601?variant=10394025033772

ramarren Posted May 3, 2019 Share #10 Posted May 3, 2019 I have both the Nitecore chargers and the Leica OEM chargers for my M-D and CL batteries. They both work well, but I find the Leica OEM charger actually achieves a slightly greater amount of charge on a full charge cycle. I think the Nitecore chargers are a bit more conservative about what constitutes full charge to help protect the battery and prolong battery life. Yeah, when I charge things, I just drop them in and pull them out the next morning. I don't look at the lights much.
reynoldsyoung Posted May 4, 2019 Share #11 Posted May 4, 2019 The 80% light stays on after the green stops blinking and goes solid....then, you are fully charged. 1

That's what mine is doing now - but, I don't really get that from reading the manual. Good to know that's normal. The first time I charged it, the 80% light didn't stay on - and after a time all the lights were off, but I only have seen that behavior the first charge out of the box.
