Italy is an amazing country, be prepare for history, classical arts and excellent food (if you avoid tourist only restaurants. One clue, if it is presented by Lonely planet, it is one of them) indigestion.

Wonderful wife has suggested that Italy is not the place for a Q since Italy appears to be the "Capital of Camera Thieves". She also gets irritated when I wander away from our friends in order to get "a better perspective" -- saying that I should leave ART behind, relax, become just another tourist, spend more time with people, etc. I definitely want better than my great iPhone 8+ camera. The Q is my go-to for everything. Our Canon EOS-R is just out of the question. Being totally fixated on 28mm perspective and preferring full frame over APS-c, I still want something I can put into a pocket. The Q is too big. The Q is too expensive to lose and I can not afford/want to the upgrade to Q2. The Ricoh GR-III is getting marvelous reviews as a pro photographer's choice for a pocketable camera. While APS-c, it has a great 28mm lens, 24 Mpixels, and a user interface designed around simplicity -- sort of the same values as the Q. But under $1,000... Have any of y'all used the Ricoh GR-III for travel? I can understand your reservations in taking your Q on holiday, it’s not that I particularly worry about getting bopped on the head but when you’re out and about doing the tourist thing it’s just something else to worry about. I note the GRIII getting good reviews particularly for portability however I recently bought a Lumix TZ200 which is about the same size as the GRIII but has a viewfinder and flash built-in, it also zooms to 360mm which admittedly is a bit extreme and which I seldom use however when first switched on it goes to 24mm then steps to 32mm so much the same as the GR III’s fixed 28mm. I’m sure others will jump in with other recommendations but for what it’s worth I find the TZ200 a proficient alternative to the Q in certain circumstances., having said that I’d have a CL if I could afford it!
