... German Shepherd on the beach...

My very personal view:
A photo full of power and energy.
Nevertheless, these bared teeth cause in me disgust and deepest rejection.
Because of such untamed or badly untrained beasts, which their irresponsible owners allowed to run around freely, my female partners were no longer willing to take a sunny Sunday walk with me on the most beautiful spots on the Elbe border of Hamburg or at its famous Outer Alster.
No, I havn't any sympathy for the descendants of Hitler's Blondie and its conspecifics, who on orders of their military guides killed prisoners in Nazi concentration camps and spread fear and terror in their entire domain.
I would like to meet these and similar dogs only if they wear a muzzle and are strictly rope leashed by their owners, who should only have the right to possess such dogs, if they have proved through regular tests and certificates their character and physical fitness for possessing and guiding correctly such dogs.
Sorry for my very unfriendly sounding statement against dog possessors.

I understand if you have personally had a very bad experience with ANY dog. I totally agree that strict training and close control is very desirable. MANY dogs, of all breeds, and their owners are irresponsible. likewise, many are responsible too. I have always advocated that the owner/handler should be licenced, not the dog. Such licence should only be awarded after a stringent test to be passed. I have personally be attacked by Labradors, twice, once requiring hospitalisation. These dogs are reputed to be gentle calm domestic animals. They were not under effective control. ALL dogs are capable of attack.

Please take note that my German Shepherd has been and still is undergoing training. His obedience is very good. In the photo shown above, he is acting strictly under my control, 'posing' for the photo. As for the teeth, there is no problem with them unless they are used as weapons. True for any dog. All dogs expending energy need to breath and cool only via their wide open mouth. It is their air conditioning and must be wide open to be effective. The perception that it is aggression is a problem with the perceiver, not the dog.

Regarding Hitler and the Nazis use of German Shepherds. The entire blame for their actions lies with the handlers. NOT the dogs. You may be surprised to know that originally They preferred French Poodles as guard dogs because they are naturally more aggressive. Their 'sissy' look disqualified them in Favour of the actually more docile Shepherds. Shepherds are very intelligent and easy to train. How they end up is a result of their training, not their natural nature.
