In the UK you can now pick up a new SL for £3,195 (inc VAT) when trading in any SLR

Looks like a response to the S1R  rather than the imminent arrival of the SL2 to me.

Leica had a good trade in deal for the M240 for a while long before the M10 was announced.

The choice is between ibis and a larger body or a more compact ibisless body, it seems. That said, Sony seems to manage the best of both worlds.  And the SL was at a £600 discount before Xmas, although the S1 had been announced it was still only a paper camera.

Indications from some reliable dealers are that the S3 announcement will come in June/July.  None of these same dealers I’ve contacted (on other matters) have heard anything about an imminent SL2; instead guessing at something closer to year end...emphasize guessing.

The S3 was officially announced by Leica in September 2018 (Photokina).

On Leica Camera website : “Available as of Spring 2019”.

😟

Oh well, taking on board that that's only a guess, if Hasselblad doesn't announce an X1D Mk 2 this summer there's always the Panasonic S1 or even the S1R depending on its dynamic range at base ISO. I'm still waiting for the DxO numbers for the S1R as I don't trust the Photons to Photos DR charts which don't use measured ISO.

But, in common I suspect with others, if I do opt for an S1 or S1R I am less likely to stick exclusively with Leica glass. I can just hear the rumbles of concern echoing through Wetzlar as they realise that Bob may only buy one of their lenses instead of a body and two or three of their lenses. Ok, maybe not. 🤣🤣🤣

I’m doing some comparisons right now, Lumix S 50/1 4 vs. 50 Summilux-SL. No tripod used but at shutter speeds of 1/640 sec. and faster with IBIS turned on it shouldn’t matter. The Panasonic lens is materially softer wide open in the center in every single shot I’ve checked so far. Still need to go through tons of them. It’s a bit shocking. It basically lacks contrast wide open. I’ll post all of them with links to the RAW files, maybe in a dedicated thread. Folks at Wetzlar are probably laughing their butts off. 🤣🤣🤣

I’m well aware. Some dealers are expecting otherwise, at least in terms of delivery, and they wanted it yesterday.
