You don't need to run it in the background. What you can do, and what probbaly happens the first time you run it, is set the Preferences within Image Capture to always perform a certain task when a camera or card is detected. This would normally be iPhoto, but mine is set to open Lightroom by default, as soon as a card is inserted into a reader. Image Capture doesn't need to be running, as the preference is set System-wide. I only ever use Image Capture to scan documents on my flat-bed scanner. The files are still buggered though; they are transferred directly from the camera but still not read. . Steve, The information is on page 122 of the manual. Sadly you have to translate it into German and back again into English (but correctly this time) for it to make sense, otherwise the Mac/USB instructions are garbage. I asked Leica UK back in January to put an Errata Sheet into the manual or at least to correct the PDF file but I see neither seems to have been done yet - Ho Hummmm. Andy, I sort of got the impression Image Capture was acting like a TSR (Terminate but Stay Resident) program in Windows - I don't know the terminology in OS X and in effect pointed the images at the correct program - in my case C1 for DNG's, iPhoto for JPEG's. I agree it only opens actively in certain scanner operations, which was a real nuisance in my case, as I wanted Canon's own sub-program, Canoscan, to run and Image Capture kept opening up but only on my PowerMac and not on the iMac or iBook. Maybe one of us would have better or different luck using a different computer, different software, etc. It seems strange that the file size would be right but the files are inaccessible. In fact I have been out today and retaken about half of them. I'll finish off tomorrow before the madhouse beckons further. If someone knows of somewhere I can send a 10Mb file for analysis I'll be happy to provide it. I'm not paranoid, but everyone's out to get me.
