paul.bridges.3388 Posted March 29, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 29, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Received my Q2 today. Of course, it’s a beautiful camera but I’m immediately puzzled about the AF / MF. Coming from Sony (A7R & RX1RII), I’m used to focussing with “hybrid” DMF. A half-press to spot AF...and then fine MF adjustment on the focus ring (using magnification with peaking). The Q2 seems to be locked to either full AF....or full MF. What’s more, the AF implementation seems poor - using a flimsy plastic tab on the focus ring to lock into AF mode. Or, am I missing something in my excitement? Leica Guy Posted March 29, 2019 Share #2 Posted March 29, 2019 I guess its a matter of opinion. I have a Q and not a Q2. You are right about the camera is either in AF or MF. No in between. IMHO the selector for manual focus is elegant. Simple. Works well. I would never nor have I ever before your comment heard anyone describe it as a flimsy plastic tab. My Q is my first Leica camera so I cannot really compare with confidence other Leica lenses. Almost all are MF only anyway. I’ve not owned the Sony cameras you reference so I cannot comment on their focusing modes. I would suggest some patience with the Q2. Likely you’ll come to appreciate its simplicity and capability including the lens switching to Macro.
