Ludders Posted March 26, 2019 Share #1 Â Posted March 26, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Waiting for my used 11-23mm lens to arrive I bought by mistake a Leica UV/IR filter thinking it was just a UV filter to keep on the lens. May be a stupid question, but you don't know what you don't know, can I use the UV/IR filter in the same way as a UV filter without any colour cast to my photos. Advertisement Posted March 26, 2019 Posted March 26, 2019 Hi Ludders, Take a look here Using UV/IR filter. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Marac Posted March 26, 2019 Share #2  Posted March 26, 2019 Any filter you put in front of a lens 'could' affect the image but it is unlikely to do it in such a dramatic way unless it is a very cheap one (I doubt you'd buy a cheap filter for a £1200+ lens). UV - ultra violet IR - infrared, these 2 light waves will be blocked. Personally I never use a filter.
voightL Posted March 26, 2019 Share #3 Â Posted March 26, 2019 No problem at all. These filters were introduced during M8. I have been using it with my M240 with no issue.
Ludders Posted March 26, 2019 Author Share #4 Â Posted March 26, 2019 thank you voightL and Marac, will keep the filter on the lens, as I want to protect my investment. Â
jaapv Posted March 26, 2019 Share #5  Posted March 26, 2019 However a proper protective filter is better. These IR filters will produce green reflections on your image in high-contrast situations.
