Giguchan Posted March 24, 2019 Share #1  Posted March 24, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all,  I would like to know if any of you lucky Q2 owners are using any of the RRS plates on the bottom of the camera. I was given a few links for suitable models but like i said i want to know what is actually being used out there in the real world thank you. : http://www.reallyrightstuff.com/B9-Multi-use-bidirectional-plate http://www.reallyrightstuff.com/B6-Bidirectional-plate-with-one-1-4-20-screw http://www.reallyrightstuff.com/BP-CS-Multi-camera-conventional-plate

Leica Guy Posted March 24, 2019 Share #2  Posted March 24, 2019 (edited) Instead, I bought a 70mm Arca Swiss plate on Amazon. Works great.  Edited March 24, 2019 by iQ2 (formerly Infiniumguy)
Jay B Posted March 24, 2019 Share #3 Â Posted March 24, 2019 I've got a RRS B9, and it fits well. Just slightly wider than the camera base. Can't access battery or SD card while it is on, however.
Giguchan Posted March 24, 2019 Author Share #4  Posted March 24, 2019 Thanks Guys.... Thank you for the replies.... I'll have a look on Amazon too. Jay i did hear that while using some of the RRS plates you lose some access to some of the camera body features- such as what you described. Guess what i heard was the truth. I'll have a look around tomorrow!

I am not Jay, but I have the RRS plates with handgrip for the M9 and M10. The plate for the M9 is a bit handier to remove for bottom access - it has a flip-up tab at one end like conventional M cameras. 180° turn and it opens. For the M10 there is a flip-up tab close to the center which screws a few turns to open the bottom so it's not as quick. But in each case the battery and SD card are fully revealed.
Giguchan Posted March 24, 2019 Author Share #6  Posted March 24, 2019  Hey there,  Thanks for replying.... I forgot to mention that when i get the Q2 i will also be using the Hand grip... Thank you for letting me know... This is indeed important news.

I guarantee you I’ll use a tripod extensively for landscape shots trying to maximize IQ without worrying about shutter speed. ISO 50 much of the time and with an ND filter if around water. I did this for 3+ years with the Q and often loved the results.
Giguchan Posted March 28, 2019 Author Share #12  Posted March 28, 2019   Agreed...  It's mostly going to be a hand held camera..  I thought it might be nice to have a plate for it in case i put it on a  T pod...  I can find a place to sit and do long exposures of lights and or people..  Most of the time it will not be on a T pod. I always have an Area-Swiss plate with me, but I only put it on when using on a tripod. I do not like the added piece or weight when I'm shooting handheld.

Giguchan Posted March 28, 2019 Author Share #15  Posted March 28, 2019 Agreed.... and such a small Camera the weight would be noticeable. Defeats having a small Camera in the first place.
Leica Guy Posted March 28, 2019 Share #16  Posted March 28, 2019 It’s actually a very small weight, but I do find it reduces my enjoyment when shooting handheld. The size plate I use is in the way of changing a battery or SD card, but I like the 70mm size because it seems to stabilize the camera really well when on the tripod.  It’s something extra that’s unnecessary handheld. I like a minimalist approach whenever possible. I’m mostly being finicky, but I don’t care. It works for me.
marchyman Posted March 28, 2019 Share #17  Posted March 28, 2019 Smaller plates are available.  This one lives on my Q:  Welcome, dear visitor! Giguchan Posted March 29, 2019 Author Share #18  Posted March 29, 2019 Thanks for the reply...  I was told that because there are no dedicated plates for the Q2 that some it's functionality might be hindered. Good thing you're good!. The RRS people told me in an email that they will evaluate the demand for the a dedicated plate and then make a move.

Leica Guy Posted March 29, 2019 Share #20  Posted March 29, 2019 This is a simple problem to solve. You can buy plates on Amazon from 20mm wide to 100+mm wide. Choose the one that fits your needs. They’re cheap and they all are Arca-Swiss compatible. I own RRS plates and “L” plates for my Canon 5D3. They work great. I bought a chinese made one for my Q, but I didn’t like it because I really like the Arte De Mano half case and Aventino grip. I have plates of several sizes. I don’t have my Q2 yet, but I’m pretty sure there’s a plate that dors not intefere with the battery or SD card door. I replace the allen type screw with one that has a ring that raises to turn. That way I don’t need any tool to remove it. Easy and takes 5 secs. Some experimentation yet required. Welcome, dear visitor!
