marknorton Posted July 23, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 23, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not sure what I'm going to do with it but a man from Fedex arrived with the last of my Leica filters, a 67mm. This filter is of course currently only used with the WATE and Leica filter adapter. When you use it, there's no lens cap or lens hood plus there are two open apertures in the adapter to cause spurious reflections and let the dust in. Just confirms the filter adapter solution developed here is much better. Maybe 67mm will be the fiter size of choice if they produce a super-wide angle lens in the future, otherwise this filter will not have much use. Advertisement Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 Hi marknorton, Take a look here 67mm Filter Arrived. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
vanhulsenbeek Posted July 23, 2007 Share #2 Posted July 23, 2007 Hi! Got the same filter last week (one of the two freebees), with the adapter included in the package. With the adapter there is a plastic ring, which effectively shuts off the two open slots. A sturdy Canon 67mm lenscap, at the princely sum of 7EUR, now complements the whole thing. Pictures look perfect, no vignetting. Not a bad set, for a total of 7EUR, but somewhat big and, as you said in an earlier mail I think, kludsy. Am therefor comtemplating buying the John Milich set after my vacation which starts tomorrow. For which the filter arrived just in time!
marknorton Posted July 23, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted July 23, 2007 Well, that's interesting they included the adapter with your filter and it's a modified design to close those holes. No such luck here, I got just the filter. I have a couple of the "Classic" (LOL) adapters which let the dust in, but I can see the benefit of being able to see through them with the Frankenfinder. Overall through, I prefer the 49mm adapter from John. Enjoy your vacation...
vanhulsenbeek Posted July 23, 2007 Share #4 Posted July 23, 2007 Well, I think is is the same adapter. The plastic ring is added as far as I member to reflected light ( from a Silver M8 ? :-) or from the lettering on the lens reach the CCD. The intrusion in the viewfinder is quite minimal and with my 21-24-28 viewfinder (the older model, not from Castle Frankenstein) I do not see the adapter at all. See here, with pano-setup: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/29232-nodal-point-24-elmarit.html#post310584 You see a tiny bit of lettering behind the ring. Mark, As far as I can tell, it is the normal filter holder for the 67 with an ADDITIONAL plastic flat ring that fits tightly into the filter holder. The lettering says "Only for use with Leica M8 + UV/IR filter" and "this side towards lens". It came in a box numbered 14473 Filter Holder E 67 which contained the holder AND a separate plastic envelope with the flat ring. I suggest that you ask Leica to supply you with this ring so that you can at least use or sell the holder if you so choose. I am sure that Leica just forgot to include this new accessory. The acccompanying invoice is dated 28th Feb and delivery was on 17th July. The package arived here by UPS with no advance information. Hope this helps. marknorton Posted July 23, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted July 23, 2007 Sounds like an after thought from Leica, I bought mine on 9 March. I might put in a request to my dealer.
ho_co Posted July 23, 2007 Share #7 Posted July 23, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mark-- Double-check your packing material. At least one of the posters on the earlier thread on this topic said that the plastic ring at least (and possibly the filter adapter as well) was in an envelope that he almost overlooked. Hope you've got the whole thing! --HC
