Greg Haag Posted March 15, 2019 Share #1  Posted March 15, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am new to Leica and was hoping to get some feedback on your favorite architectural lens.  Currently my only wide angle option is Hasselblad HC 35mm with adapter. Thanks in advance, Greg
Advertisement Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 Hi Greg Haag, Take a look here Leica S favorite architectural lens. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
John McMaster Posted March 15, 2019 Share #2  Posted March 15, 2019 If you have a 35mm, then the 24mm would make sense. The 30mm and 45mm are probably too close as a next lens... john
LeicaS2 Posted March 15, 2019 Share #3  Posted March 15, 2019 (edited) I started with the 35 as my first and only lens back when the S2 came out. As soon as I got the 24mm I stopped using the 35. I do architecture and landscapes and it is very nice for both. This photo shows the change in field of view. Not much of a photo, but good for comparison if one can spell comparison or field.   Welcome, dear visitor! LeicaS2, Thank you for taking the time to provide the example, showing the difference between the 24mm and the 35mm.  I think I am going to sell my HC and get the Leica 24mm, it sound like you really like yours.  Edited March 15, 2019 by Greg Haag
albertknappmd Posted March 15, 2019 Share #6  Posted March 15, 2019 The 24mm S lens is in a class of its own. There is nothing like it in the photographic firmament..... I use it all the time for architecture. Albert 😚
John McMaster Posted March 15, 2019 Share #7  Posted March 15, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) The 24mm is stunning, like most S lenses 😉 My favourites (not used the 30mm or 100mm) are the 24, 45 and 120 macro. john
mgrayson3 Posted March 16, 2019 Share #8  Posted March 16, 2019 Has anyone mentioned the 24 yet? My favorite lens ever.
peterv Posted March 16, 2019 Share #9  Posted March 16, 2019 Yeah, I love my 24mm and use it for landscape and as a point and shoot for reportage work 🙂 It's bitingly sharp wide open at focus point and has a - to my eyes - really nice roll off into (for such a wide angle) exceptionally smooth OOF areas. For landscape I just use f9,5, set and forget.
Greg Haag Posted March 16, 2019 Author Share #10 Â Posted March 16, 2019 Regarding the Leica 24mm, I am looking at one that is used, have there been different versions of these or are all the same version? Thanks in advance, Greg
peterv Posted March 16, 2019 Share #11  Posted March 16, 2019 (edited) There is only one version, no central shutter or anything. I bought mine secondhand in mint condition from the very good people of the Leica Store Berlin, and I believe that they have a second hand 24mm on their website right now. Thanks in advance, Greg May I ask: how do you like the 35 HC? On the 24 everything is said already, I think 😬 I you want to stay with the S system and do Architecture, Cityscapes or Landscapes and you like wide angles, get one. They aren't that often for sale second hand with a good price.
mgrayson3 Posted March 31, 2019 Share #16  Posted March 31, 2019 The Contax 35 is also very good and works well with the Leica adapter. The S35 is even better. The 28 Cron was my favorite lens on the M, so I was very fond of 35 on the S... until the 24 came out.

Photon42, The 35 HC has been a great lens for me and a used lens is usually easy to acquire.   That said, I generally read more favorable reviews on the Hasselblad 28 and 24 regarding sharpness in the corners.  Personally for me, I never felt like it was an issue.  I am not sure if this is due to the fact that almost all of my shooting with that lens fall between f8 and f16. Really easy to do automatically on the GFX (also on Nikon D850 and P1 XF). It is one thing that would be nice as a firmware upgrade for the S; I am surprised how often it would come handy in my projects.

I guess it's a standard feature nowadays, ehhh.
