I started with the 35 as my first and only lens back when the S2 came out.

As soon as I got the 24mm I stopped using the 35.

I do architecture and landscapes and it is very nice for both.

This photo shows the change in field of view. Not much of a photo, but good for comparison if one can spell comparison or field.

If you have a 35mm, then the 24mm would make sense.  The 30mm and 45mm are probably too close as a next lens...

Thank you John, I am actually thinking about selling my HC 35 and getting the Leica 24mm.  Do you have that lens, if so, how do you like it?

LeicaS2,

Thank you for taking the time to provide the example, showing the difference between the 24mm and the 35mm.  I think I am going to sell my HC and get the Leica 24mm, it sound like you really like yours.

Yeah, I love my 24mm and use it for landscape and as a point and shoot for reportage work 🙂

It's bitingly sharp wide open at focus point and has a - to my eyes - really nice roll off into (for such a wide angle) exceptionally smooth OOF areas.

For landscape I just use f9,5, set and forget.

There is only one version, no central shutter or anything.

I bought mine secondhand in mint condition from the very good people of the Leica Store Berlin, and I believe that they have a second hand 24mm on their website right now.

I am new to Leica and was hoping to get some feedback on your favorite architectural lens.  Currently my only wide angle option is Hasselblad HC 35mm with adapter.

Thanks in advance,

Greg

May I ask: how do you like the 35 HC? On the 24 everything is said already, I think 😬 I you want to stay with the S system and do Architecture, Cityscapes or Landscapes and you like wide angles, get one. They aren't that often for sale second hand with a good price.

Photon42,

The 35 HC has been a great lens for me and a used lens is usually easy to acquire.   That said, I generally read more favorable reviews on the Hasselblad 28 and 24 regarding sharpness in the corners.  Personally for me, I never felt like it was an issue.  I am not sure if this is due to the fact that almost all of my shooting with that lens fall between f8 and f16.

digital sensor with smaller pitch will suffer most from diffraction generally from f11 onwards... so going f16 guarantee a slightly softer image. on GFX, most lens max out at f8... but the dof is an issue....

Focus stacking to the rescue. Really easy to do automatically on the GFX (also on Nikon D850 and P1 XF). It is one thing that would be nice as a firmware upgrade for the S; I am surprised how often it would come handy in my projects.

never really use focus stacking. But I know it's good... I guess it's a standard feature nowadays, ehhh.
