downstairs Posted March 10, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 10, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I tried focus stacking with manual focus, marking out steps on the focus ring with tape - as I would with a non-automatic lens. But on the Summilux, the marks seem to lose relevance the moment I touch a camera control. Is it possible that the focus ring behaves like a joystick? Bill W Posted March 10, 2019 Share #2 Posted March 10, 2019 If I am not mistaken, the focusing is by wire.
darylgo Posted March 10, 2019 Share #3 Posted March 10, 2019 Use the top display to show distance for the focus ring, it isn't linear iirc and the rate of change will vary with ring acceleration/speed. My lenses are touchy and distance is not easily set to a given value.
IkarusJohn Posted March 11, 2019 Share #4 Posted March 11, 2019 I doubt the lens setting is any more accurate ...
downstairs Posted March 11, 2019 Author Share #5 Posted March 11, 2019 Superlative manual focus when used as the lens was intended to be used - but, as darylgo says, not linear and the rate of change varies. I got round that with auto-focus spot, putting the cross-hair on the right places for each frame. Shot here.
Chaemono Posted March 11, 2019 Share #6 Posted March 11, 2019 The picture has depth and gives the impression that one only needs to reach in and grab an object.
LocalHero1953 Posted March 11, 2019 Share #7 Posted March 11, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) If it's like other L lenses then it is speed-related as @darylgosays. It takes a while to get used to. The only time I use manual focus with a L lens is the 60TL where this manual focus implementation is quite helpful in going from one extreme to the other, then focusing sensitively in the macro range.
