Hi everibody,

it's the first time that I used a rangefinder camera in a such intense way:) !

More than 2 weeks travelling around the Portugal, a lot of shots, only with my M8 and mainly one lens - the zeiss 28mm biogon ZM , that I used everyday and changed very few times.

I was worried  about the light conditions, I don't love the high contrast, and I was worried about the dynamic range of the M8 too.

Anyway, this is the link to my website:

Paolo--

Very nice work, indeed! And a nice sense of humor in several of the shots.

You make me want to head for Portugal next chance I get!

And your "Powered by Paolo D'Alfonso" reminder is also charming.

Thanks for posting.

HI Paulo

I really enjoyed these - lots of splendid composition and some humour (I loved the bus with the advert of the snoozing guy).

The M8 appears to have done you proud!

best wishes

Superb and witty images throughout - I especially love the interesting way you compose your images so that the frame appears to be 'sliced' geometrically by different surfaces or objects.

My only (slight) reservation would be the tinting of digital images - I've developed a slight aversion to that effect, and I wonder why you added it to some of them(?)

Anyways, all-in-all a brilliant set of images!

Complimeti Paolo!

Compliments Paolo!

really fantastic B/W, I really appreciate your shots, but what settings did you use?

Have you done some post-process?I'm really curious about settings such as contrast, EV, ecc.. made on camera.

Ciao

Maurizio

Thanks a lot for your comments :) and your support.

I try to reply

- to Murizio: I usually shot in raw (+ jpg low, for a quick general view), so I don't think that the camera settings influnce the shot; then I process using C1 to obtain the .tiff files. -Finally I convert in BW through PS, spending some time to achieve a good 'film' feeling.

- to plasticman: the light toning effect dont't fully convince me too; I tried to obtain a warmtone-like effect, but probably I failed :o

Regards

Paolo, I'm curious: do you simply walk around with your 35mm equivalent set at a high f and focused at hyperfocal distance? I'm more interested in your technique than in pixel peeping, and as I'm currently going through a deep soul searching that takes me from expensive all manuals to cheap auto-focus computers and all the way back, your gallery pulled my right back to HCB!

BTW, I found plasticman nailed it with his comment on your composition, and I love it: cut, cut, cut.
