jgriffter Posted July 22, 2007 Share #1  Posted July 22, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello  I am trying to find a case for my new Digilux 3 (couldn't pass up the customer loyalty program!). I have seen advertisements for the Leica leather camera case (18627) for the Digilux 2. Comments are that it is a nice leather case. Does anyone know if the case will fit the Digilux 3? I have not seen a similar case specifically referencing the Digilux 3.  Thanks,  John

jdlaing Posted July 22, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted July 22, 2007 There is a neoprene cover available from Leica. I suspect the D2 case will not fit the D3 due to the size of the lens.
JBonner Posted July 22, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted July 22, 2007 The case for the D2 certainly won't fit the D3, in fact it barely fitted the D2. While rather lovely to behold, it appeared specifically designed to scratch the camera every time it was removed or replaced. A disaster, if a stylish one. The neoprene one for the D2 is actually quite useful, somewhat to my surprise. It is relatively inexpensive too, also to my surprise....
JBonner Posted July 22, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted July 22, 2007 apologies, last two sentences refer to the D3 not the D2 - time for bed....
jgriffter Posted July 22, 2007 Author Share #5 Â Posted July 22, 2007 Thank you all for your responses. I am glad I didn't order one yet. I will check out the Neoprene. I had seen it but didn't know what to think of it. Suprisingly, the Cordura Leica case I bought for my V-Lux 1 also works with the Digilux 3, although a snug fit. designdog Posted July 23, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted July 23, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Actually the Panasonic L1 case is very stylish and well made: DMW-BAL1 on their site. Â It doesn't have a readily visible logo on it, so no status reduction there. Really is more "Leica" than "Panasonic." Will hold the camera, kit lens, and a 50-200mm should you be inclined. miami91 Posted July 24, 2007 Share #9  Posted July 24, 2007 there is a leica billingham case specfically designed for the digilux 3 Leica Camera AG - Photography - LEICA DIGILUX 3 Cases  watch the whole play or scroll to the bottom -- the billingham is nice - my dad just got it in black - a classic  I have this case. It's the same as the M combo bag. As you'd expect from Billingham, it's very well made and attractive, but is really bare bones as a D3 bag. Given the size of the D3 and lenses, you can only fit the camera body and one lens in the main compartment. I've supplemented with an add on pouch (which snaps to the side of the bag), which holds a second lens, but this is a pretty compact bag.  The billingham also has a zippered pocket in the front, handy for a cleaning cloth, extra battery, filters, WhiBal card, etc.  Jeff. dugby Posted July 25, 2007 Share #10  Posted July 25, 2007 For my D3 / L1, I originally bought the Crumpler Cucumberumba which is a nicely shaped SLR shaped/profiled shoulder bag, but it's got the longer lens snout, so I found the bag looks too long.  I just picked up the shorter version, the Crumpler Zieube, and this one is a perfect fit for the D3 / L1  I like the Crumplers as they look so casual amoungst crowds, and don't scream >>>>CAMERA<<<<  These bags are hard to find, but pop up on ebay occasionally. But I guess you don't suggest it? I plan on getting a Billingham bag to hold the Digilux 3, 14-50 lens, cleaning kit (brush, lens tissue and solution) as well as extra battery and SD cards. Do you think this is pushing it already? Obviously as you said I can't accommodate more than one lens, right? Thoughts on the bag is appreciated. leonpro Posted July 25, 2007 Share #12  Posted July 25, 2007 Digilux 3 Case... check this site: Cases for Leica Digital.htm  These are very nice, but very expensive cases. USD300++ for a Digilux 3 half-case. A matching strap will cost a further USD60++. The "++" represents additional shipping fee and customs tax.  I would love to have something like this, but for the rest of people like me who want a case I can use to protect my D3 without worry of protecting the case as well. Is there any similar alternative to this case?
miami91 Posted July 25, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted July 25, 2007 Jeff, I'm interested in this case. But I guess you don't suggest it? Obviously as you said I can't accommodate more than one lens, right? Thoughts on the bag is appreciated. Â For what you describe, I think you'd be very pleased with this bag. As I said, it's a beautiful bag. Billinghams are first class all the way. But I always like to have more than one lens with me --- just a personal preference. With the M, the camera and lenses are compact enough that you can pack a body and 2-3 lenses in a very small bag. This is obviously not true with a dSLR like the Digilux3. So for my purposes, the bag isn't great. To carry a second lens, I have to attach an accessory pouch (the Avea 6, I believe), and then the weight is really awkward -- the bag is imbalanced and pulls significantly to the side where the pouch is attached. I'm actually contemplating getting another Avea 6 for the other side of the bag to even out the weight distribution by carrying a third lens. But at this point, I've nearly doubled the width of the bag! Â Anyway, for the D3, an attached lens, and a few accessories, I think it would suit a person well. Â Jeff. Is there any similar alternative to this case?  Yes, Luigi's cases are well loved, and for good reason. I have one for my M7, but it's a little easier to rationalize given the price tag and the knowledge that I'll have the camera for the rest of my life. It's tougher to justify on a digital camera body only worth a little more than the case itself, and that one will be tempted to get rid of in a year or two (eithor for a replacement model or, given the fate of the D2, when the sensor fails).  If I knew for sure the D3's successor model would have the same measurements, I might be more tempted to buy a Luigi for it. But I'm actually hoping it may be more compact (a la an Olympus E-510).  Jeff.
