ramarren Posted March 3, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 3, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is anyone else as peeved and annoyed by this 'No upload sunday" horse manure as I am? What the heck is the point of a photography forum if you can't show photographs? And even beyond that, any time some text I write by the editor gets interpreted to be replaced by an emoticon (which it shouldn't do anyway ... emoticons are double-word characters, not pictures) it puts a nastygram into my post. I find this incredibly offensive, to the point that I'm going to avoid looking at this forum for the remainder of the day. Stupid stuff, it just aggravates me no end. andybarton Posted March 3, 2019 Share #4 Posted March 3, 2019 Have you actually read what the issue is? Potentially, you might have a "no upload at all, any day". In effect, no Forum. This has the potential to be a complete game-changer for people that run Forums, like Andreas does. And for Forums themselves.

It's amazing really, people complaining about the banner/protest but not the actual reasons behind it all! It's why most countries are in such a mess. 1

The point is that everybody IS as peeved and annoyed as you are, but not at this "no upload Sunday", but at the fact that this is what some oligophrenic lawmakers would like the Internet to be like, under pressure of a publisher's lobby. 3

Armagawd, what happened to all the pictures of bags, straps, and “I love my Leica” specimens posing next to watches/cappuccinos/copies of Robert Frank? Please don’t tell me they’ve all been erased! ramarren Posted March 4, 2019 Author Share #10 Posted March 4, 2019 (edited) Never saw the note by Andreas ... I certainly don't read every post on this, or any other, site.. What stupidity has the EU foisted upon us now? I'll go hunt for his post. I'm sure it will irritate me and raise my blood pressure. Whatever the reason, reducing a photo forum to the same level as the photo email list that I created in 1991 is just insipidly ridiculous. Might as well toss the notion of a photo forum completely and go back to text-only emails. And, btw, I live in the USA and have absolutely no voice or influence in the politics of the EU. I have little enough in the USA.. 😶 Edited March 4, 2019 by ramarren
andybarton Posted March 4, 2019 Share #11 Posted March 4, 2019 There was a red banner at the top of every page, linking to a thread about the issue, plus a large section on the right, ditto. Normality has now been restored. Let's just hope that the EU legislation can be stopped in its current form, before it does irreparable damage to communities such as this one. Please don’t tell me they’ve all been erased! I am sure sure that the 'poncing about' crowd with their photos of Leicas with red leather straps and cups of coffee will be back. I would support an EU Directive to do away with that type of nonsense which is almost encouraged by the Leica Boutiques. This, for me, is the least attractive aspect of Leica. I have just checked my list of MEPs and all the ones that I know voted for Article 13. Others who are more left wing or who are Sinn Fein (except one - there must not have been no Sinn Fein party whip) voted against Article 13. I will send something to the MEPs that I know about a sense of proportion and discretionary regulation. I am sure that the MEPs who voted for Article just think that this is all about starving Irish artists, of whatever genre, versus giants like Google, You Tube, Facebook etc and they may have no sense of the collateral damage that this may cause to the use of the internet by purely amateur parties, which is one of its greatest strengths. I might add that there is not much discussion in Ireland about this matter. People here are much more exercised by the possibility that might have to bring their passport or a green card with them in order to go shopping or get a cup of coffee in a matter of weeks from now. There are also much more serious aspects to that, of course. William
