Guest flatfour Posted July 22, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted July 22, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) It's probably my fault. Normally when I connect the camera to my PC via the USB lead, and then switch on the camera, it asks what programme I want to use. I then click OK and the pictures download to the PC (once I have selected a file) Â Now when I connect it as above I hear clicking in the PC but nothing appears on the PC screen. Have I fiddled with a setting ? Â I have just come back from a holiday with about 200 pics which I don't want to lose.
Advertisement Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 Hi Guest flatfour, Take a look here Help ! Digilux 2 Problem. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
elgenper Posted July 22, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted July 22, 2007 Just possibly, you might have changed the "USB mode" setting on the D2. It is in the Setup menu, 3rd page. Normally, "mass storage" should be selected for your purposes, not "PTP" (whatever that means...). Â I have to add that my PC experience is rather limited, since I actively avoid contact with anything Microsoft whenever I can. But for downloading images to a Mac, the camera should appear as a mass storage unit, and the menu selection should be as described. Â That said, a separate card reader is both simpler and better (and normally faster as well) than hooking up the camera through USB.
Guest flatfour Posted July 22, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted July 22, 2007 elgenper - It is aready set at Mass Storage - I wondered if it should be USB.
dhsimmonds Posted July 22, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted July 22, 2007 Anthony, as already mentioned I would strongly recommend investing in a seperate card reader as they are not expensive, will connect to a USB port and are much faster and provide more reliable transfers of your images. I have also heard that damage to camera firmware is also possible but I believe that is rare.
tqh Posted July 22, 2007 Share #5  Posted July 22, 2007 I think there are possibilties: • Your hard drive is playing up, put your camera aside, disconnect it from your PC, save your data and check up the hard drive and repair it, the USB driver might have mucked up your HD (bad possibilty) • You should not disrupt the download process and should not use the digital camera as a card reader itself to download your photos (too risky) • use another cardreader to download your photos from the Leica to another PC (or MAC) (you may be lucky) Good luck
Guest flatfour Posted July 22, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted July 22, 2007 I have used this same system to download pictures from my wife's Canon Ixus for years. It worked perfectly just now. The Digilux just won't download for some reason
Guest flatfour Posted July 22, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted July 22, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I forgot to mention that when I connect the USB lead - whilst camera is in 'review' mode - for a couple of seconds the word ACCESS appears in red below the double arrow. elgenper Posted July 23, 2007 Share #8  Posted July 23, 2007 I forgot to mention that when I connect the USB lead - whilst camera is in 'review' mode - for a couple of seconds the word ACCESS appears in red below the double arrow.  Well, that´s the way it should be, only this text should remain visible throughout the operation. My guess now is, the problem is with the computer (or, just possibly, the USB cable), not with the D2. As I said, Windoze boxes aren´t my forte, so I have no further suggestions.... jaapv Posted July 23, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted July 23, 2007 If you clicked the "take no action" wiith the tick box activated it will switch off automatism. Go to my computer, click the camera, click the card, click DCIM, right-click the Leica file and choose your program for opening or transfer the file to your harddisk. Guest flatfour Posted July 24, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted July 24, 2007 For anyone else who has this problem. It is due to some media programs identifying the camera and offering to download pictures through their program ( in this case Canon for my wife's camera). Simply connecting the Digilux2 via the USB cable and clicking on My Computer will show the external storage device and right clicking shows the Leica folder. - Simple when you know about computers.
