Televid 77, D-Lux 3

Three of these pheasant sized wodpeckers (Pilleated) started hanging around my neighborhood this afternnoon.....must be a family......I couldn't believe my luck...I was running around with my equipment like a one armed paper hanger

Al,

Congratulations on a great capture. I've only seen one or two of these guys in my life and you managed to nab one in a beauty of a photograph. Most folks don't realize how big these things are. When flying they look almost like Pterodactyls. (or what one would imagine a pterodactyl to look like). I am big time jealous here. You did a fine job.

DD,

Thank you much.....and thank you for introducing me to digi-scoping a few years ago when the forum was just a baby...2003.....here is one more.....I took about ten and I will probably post them all before the week is through.....This is a big deal for me as I have been chasing these elusive critters for many years......Al

Thank You Guy,

They truly are very mysterious birds.....some old-timers in this part of the world call them:

"Cock-O-Woods".......here is another angle

Thanx Brian and Paul..........this was fun and so unexpected.......I hunt for this species and all of a sudden it flew into my own property while I was tinkering with the lawn-mower.

Thank you Azzo, Arthur & Stuart,

After the shoot I was across the street from my home basking in my 15 minutes of local fame.....showing neighbors proofs of this great bird that had invaded our neighborhood.

I had left the televid, tripod, adapter etc. on the bouleard grass near my home.....this is where one leaves things that are "free for the taking".....a lady stopped her car and started to load-up my equipment......the neighbors noticed......I kindly put a stop to her good fortune.....then, I finished mowing the yard....Al

Spectacular shots, Al. You have every reason to be proud of this catch. We have pileated woodpeckers on our land in the Upper Peninsula and I tried for 20 years to get decent shots of one. Finally, a couple of years ago, I found a roost with some young ones and got shots of dad doing a feeding.

Thanks Brent.....I know what you mean. We have them around our cabin up north but rarely see them and have never been close to photographing them. Hear them all the time.

Hello Marc,

I bought the Leica Digital Adapter 2.

These were impossible to find when I bought mine....four months ago.

I found one for sale on a Birding Forum from a guy in The United Kingdom.

If you need any learning curve help please ask.....I am halfway through the curve.

Al
