I for one am very sorry to see Leica Fotopark close.

I joined Fotopark early in 2015, and looked though all the new pictures posted there pretty much every single day.

I gave the best ones Likes, and regularly posted my own images.

Unfortunately, having created Fotopark, Leica seemed not to know what to do with it.

Basically,  Fotopark was allowed to wither and die through Leica's indifference and neglect.

As regards the LFI Gallery as an alternative - over the past few months I have posted around 27 images on this site, but not one has ever been chosen.

I have never received any contact or acknowledgement/encouragement from LFI for my efforts, so feel disinclined to post any more pictures there in the future.

I agree - it makes you wonder why they bothered

Probably a good example of a company with expertise in one area thinking it can jump on a bandwagon and be a success in an area that it has little or no experience in.

Leaving aside the wisdom of introducing a new photographic social media platform in an already pretty crowded space (where a couple of the established platforms – Tumblr and Flickr – were already showing signs of being well past their peak), I'm not sure there was any crying need to tie a photographic social media platform so closely to a photographic brand. Especially, a brand with such narrow demographic appeal.

I liked Fotopark, and am sorry to see it close. It was good to have a Leica-centric site for Leica photographers to showcase their work. With just a little more effort Leica could have made it a success. Also, they should also have promoted it more. LFI.Gallery is not a substitute because most of your photos (if any) will not be selected for display. Plus interaction between photographers is not allowed. I suspect many people will eventually get frustrated with LFI.Gallery and not bother posting photos there anymore. But let us hope for the best.

I don't use LFI any more, because one's photos tends to drown in the mass. I cannot say that I found it hard to get them accepted, though, maybe the standards have been tightened of late.

Let's hope that somebody (preferably close to Leica) picks up the Fotopark idea and implements and promotes it properly.

I do think that there is a need for a service that hosts, displays, provides prints and possibly sells photographs, in the Leica world.

I wholeheartedly agree! Let’s hope Fotopark will be revived...
