Not on the copy I have, it's smooth throughout the range. 

I took the lens out for a spin today, mainly to check I'm happy with it wide open (f1.4) at minimum distance and at infinity, also some test shots using the calibration chart - all seems fine. 

I'll post one or two of the shots tomorrow.

Just received the 7artisan 28mm f/1.4 and tested the focus accuracy shooting everything wide open.  First, I notice it's DOF is wider then the 24mm summilux which is not supposed to be.  Say about 4-5 inches DOF at 0.7m wide open - wtf!  Second, subject at 5 meter is blurry, I tad the focus left and right to see if any improvement but no.  Technically half meter forward or backward giving me the same blurriness like no focus at all.  It seems like a focus free lens... nothing will pop.

So I pull the 24mm summilux for the same test.  First, the bokeh is much much much better in summilux, close subjects give similar sharpness wide open but subject beyond 2.5 meters is a different story.  I can tell the summilux has focus on subject but 7artisans has none.  I'd say 7artisans has 2 meter wide roughly focus, it doesn't matter what you do, it's still blurry - whatever.   I will do one more test tomorrow at bright daylight.

Some people here compare this lens with 28mm summilux, I was like really?!  Did I miss anything?

I suspect you have a faulty lens. I don't have a Summilux to compare the 7 Artisans 28/1.4 with but I do have a 28 ASPH Summicron. The 7 Artisans pops in and out of focus just like the Summicron does. Mine was a fair bit out of adjustment when I  got it. To get it 100% accurate I used a dial gauge to half the adjustment of the RF ring each time until it was spot on. I have used to date a Voigtlander 21mm f4 Color Skopar. The DOF is so wide that I can happily use it on my Leica Ig, with a 21mm external VF but no rangefinder, as a point and shoot. Given the low cost of these lenses, it would be no surprise if there were the occasional bad apple/Monday morning hangover lens. That is why I buy mine from Hamish Gill at 35MMC, so if there is a problem I  can send it straight back to him instead of having to fight with overseas post back to China and customs refunds etc.

Before returning, check the seat of the brass cam (ramp) at the rear of the lens, seems, it is loose and does not transfer focussing to the camera finder. There should be a tiny Allan wrench enclosed for such "repair", however precise distance adjustment is necessary.

Thank you, that has been done.  I mounted this lens on Nikon Z7 and the result is the same, basically apertures at f1.4 and f2 are too soft that whether in focus or not doesn't matter.  I mean you can't tell the difference even it's out of focus, it's that bad...  I had to push my summilux off by few feet wide open to mimic it. 

This little bastard at f2.8 and beyond is actually pretty good.  I think it's a 28mm f/2.8 lens and can't qualify as f/1.4 nor f/2.

I think you might have a lemon, i did a quick few shots of this lens with my m10 in the store and found it to be quite sharp at 1.4....
