Whenever a limited edition comes out, I usually get the itch to commission my own perfect Leica limited edition. That'll never happen, so Photoshop is the closest thing. It's pretty easy to do and doesn't take that long. You'll mostly be using the patch and clone tools, and there will be some touching up with the eraser and dodge and burn tools.

This is a slightly modified Leica M10:

  • Replace the ISO knob with a button next to the shutter button.
  • Silver dot (I initially wanted it to be the same shade as the body, but it turns out that a little darker looks better).
  • No brightness sensor.
  • No focus button.
  • Classic top plate engraving.
  • No removable base plate; battery pops in like the Leica S2 and SL.
  • Internal memory.

Digital M cameras cannot do real-time TTL.

The light sensor is used to determine (roughly) the preflash - otherwise it would need two preflashes most of the time. As the M has no continuous exposure metering - the white reflective shutter curtain obviously disappears during exposure, and the camera cannot take a reflected value off the film like an analog M, the sensor is not suitable- the flash exposure can only be determined beforehand. The M-TTL system does this by a preflash. However, the intensity of the preflash must be controlled to adapt to the metering range of the internal light sensor. The camera does that by taking a reading of the exterior light by the light meter window "dot".

Sometimes it misreads the exterior light, for instance when the light meter is covered. In that case, you might have experienced this, it will take a second, corrected, preflash.

LFI (2007/3, from memory), explains the system.

I wouldn't miss M-TTL, so away it goes like on the film bodies.

See my answer above. Film bodies take a real-time TTL reading off the film. So you would do away with any kind of TTL flash in that case. M-TTL is a rather clever adaptation to the limitations of a digital rangefinder camera.

I knew I forgot to do something!

The correct answer would have been: "It's a button that when pushed converts the M10 into a film camera or back to a digital camera as desired."  I would definitely buy one of those. 😄

- Major revision - restore functioning ambient-light "full-time" frameline illumination window. That's something I'd pay $1000 extra for.

- if that's not possible, at least fill in the space with a look-alike trap-door to hold a backup SD card. ;) No sillier than restoring the phony film advance lever. Raizans' version reminded me of just how "blank" and unfinished the front of the M10 looks.

- other classic accents (knob knurling, frame selection lever) borrowed from film MP. optional

- no dot, classic engraving, are fine but not required.

- Personally, I love the solid-brass removable bottom plate.

Yesss! That's what I'm talking about!

The switch from frameline illumination window to LED frameline illumination has caused chaos and confusion amongst the designers, leading to giant screws (rounded and flat!) and oversized Leica dots for a while. 🤣With any luck, this will all be temporary.

Cool. The SD card holder is good idea. I would add credit card and passport holder in the back where lcd is. It makes it perfect travel camera. You don’t have to worry about pick pockets. :D
