The core of the DFD Technology is the algorithm taking advantage of each lens’ bokeh/clear database that is developed by Panasonic and used by Leica in SL & CL/TL.

That makes Panasonic and Leica lenses interchangeable and optimised in each platform’s CAD AF system.

will the database of Sigma lenses be added into Panasonic & Leica’s CAD AF system? What AF system will Sigma be developing?

DFD is only available with Panasonic lenses and with Leica SL lenses. I do not think that Sigma will get the courtesy.

Not sure about TL lenses and the Q. Anyway DFD AF-C is crap, but AF-S is awesome.

What is your source that states that DFD will be available with SL lenses as well? Thanks.

Leica SL web site. As easy as it sounds. They publicly raves about it.

Sadly DFD is quite a dumb tech nowadays for AF-C

I have not found any trace of DFD being mentioned on the SL site. Have you confused it with DSD (double internal focusing)?

DFD works very well with Lumix G9 cameras.

From http://en.leica-camera.com/Photography/Leica-SL/Leica-SL/Details, under the "24 MP CMOS Sensor":

"The Leica SL thanks the exceptional speed of its autofocus to Depth From Defocus (DFD) technology. In conventional, contrast-based AF, the focusing point is determined by a gradual, step-by-step approach. DFD enables the camera to determine the focusing point by the comparison of only two images with different depth of field. This avoids the need for time-consuming “hunting”, and the fine-tuning is then performed by the comparison of contrast values."

Thank you!
