Viable remote release alternatives?

Is the proper SL remote release needed or is it possible to use a cheap alternative ?

The SL release uses a very odd connector that is not commercially available on other remote releases, so you will have to use the SL remote.

If you want other functions, such as a timer etc. you can wire the SL remote lead to a third party remote. There is a thread about it somewhere from a few years ago. There are only 3 wires if I recall and the modification is quite simple.

Thanks.  V helpful.  £80 for a remote is port vfm.  I'll stick to the timer release, I think.

I tried the app and sometimes it works and other times it frustrates me.

I ordered the release because the app has been unreliable for me.

I really don't understand why the performance of the various Leica cameras is so variable with the App.  Surely, if everyone's firmware is the same, and they use the same version of the App, they should all perform the same?  They don't!  Apparently.

If you can get it to work, it's fantastic ... in my experience, anyway.

It has always worked for me with CL and SL. Fotos app is best, ‘the essential’ only.
