Kudos to Shaina Kelsick and the Leica USA Service Team! After reading on the internet that Leica would be increasing the price on Dec 1st, I sent in my M Monochrom for a sensor replacement. The camera arrived on Thursday, Nov 29th @ 11:03am. I was notified by email on Friday the camera had arrived and was logged into the system. I replied to see if I would still get the old price. On Monday Ms Kelsick replied they would honor the old price. On Tuesday afternoon I got an email saying the work had been completed and the camera would be shipped on Wednesday with overnight delivery. I received my Monochrom back on Thursday morning at about 10:10am. So, it was just one week from the time Leica USA received it until it was back in my hands! It doesn’t get much better than this.

Also wanted to say I have had different Leica cameras serviced by Leica USA in 1995, 2005, 2007 and 2012. Never a problem and always pleased with their service.

Regards,

Lux50

Hey Lux,

That's really good news. I too sent my MM1 in for sensor replacement and rushed to get it there and logged into the system by Friday November 30th. Was surprised when they told me it would only be about three weeks for the service (I remember hearing horror stories about cameras being gone for months on end). Have yet to hear back from them about ETA for getting the camera back, but after hearing your story, I am hopeful.

Best,

-Tim

  • 2 weeks later...

Yeah, I think Lux's experience might be the exception. My MM camera arrived at Leica USA less than 24 hours after Lux's camera arrived, and so far I just keep getting the same response from Leica when I've asked about it, they said when they first got it, "Three Weeks" and then when three weeks were up and I contacted them, I got the same "Three More Weeks."

So I'll have to see when I do end up finally getting it back.

Best,

-Tim

I sent my ME to Leica New Jersey when the free exchange program was still offered and got it back SIX MONTHS later. About two months afterward, I sent my M9M to Leica Germany on the last day of the free program, hoping I’d get a faster turnaround. Nope. It still took about six months.

Glad your experience was better than mine.

I've always received excellent service from Leica NJ. I waited to send in my Monochrom for sensor replacement because B&W portraits were in demand at that time. They rushed it through to the greatest extent possible. They have always been very responsive to smaller inquiries and needs as well.

Merry Christmas to me!

Just got word from New Jersey that they finished work (sensor replacement) on my Leica M Monochrom (1st generation) and it's on its way back to me. YAY!!! Can't wait to use it.

Best,

-Tim
