Advertisement Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Hi topoxforddoc, Take a look here Is the DMR firmware coming at last?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
sdai Posted July 17, 2007 Share #2 Posted July 17, 2007 If it's from Tony Rose and it was from Leica's R manager then it must be true ... now Leica is really making history - being the first company providing firmware upgrade to a discontinued product. Bravo!
cmb_ Posted July 17, 2007 Share #3 Posted July 17, 2007 I can see it now - M8 Firmware v1.102 vs DMR Firmware v1.3. The fun never ends!
rosuna Posted July 17, 2007 Share #4 Posted July 17, 2007 The list of improvements is as follows: "Improved color rendering on the Digital-Modul-R display; Adjustment of exposure; Improved compatibilty of SD cards with FAT32 system /4GB cards (SDHC); Numerous internal procedures were implementated that optimize the general image reproduction and functional features of the Digital-Modul-R." It is interesting to see if the 8-bit non-linear compression scheme of the M8 has been implemented in the new firmware for the DMR. Leica says no differences in output can be detected, and the files would be much smaller, so...
marknorton Posted July 17, 2007 Share #5 Posted July 17, 2007 Good news for DMR owners...
dhsimmonds Posted July 17, 2007 Share #6 Posted July 17, 2007 This is wonderful news, although I personally hope that it doesn't mean knocking that wonderful 16 bit digital back down to 8, 12, or 14 bits!! The DMR's 19.5 Mb 16 bit DNG files are now simply gorgeous and any reduction would destroy the idea of v-1.3 for me. The idea of 4Gb plus cards is very welcome though. I think it is more likely to be the jpeg users that will gain the most but it isn't too long to wait hopefully now, so we shall soon see what Leica have given us. Stephen Lee is an "R" user, so it could be really good!

rosuna Posted July 17, 2007 Share #10 Posted July 17, 2007 The SD-HC support is welcomed! It will be implemented in the M8 soon. The 16-bits issue is interesting to me becuause it could have implications for the M8 too.

rsolomon Posted July 17, 2007 Share #12 Posted July 17, 2007 I hope this is true !! -- and it provides everything to make the DMR all it can be !! i will beleive it for sure once Leica says something official on this topic -- hints , suggentions, inferences, and "inside information" still fall into the specuation category. again - i hope to see V1.3 shortly and will be looking to upload into my DMR instantly
ns_ng Posted July 18, 2007 Share #13 Posted July 18, 2007 Great news! But I hope they will not change the 16 bits file. For some reasons, I always feel the colors from the DMR files have better depth than the same files from the M8. DMR files are like Kodachrome. I am keeping the DMR. It has proven to be much more reliable than my M8. N.S.
