Coming from Leica Q which I regard a very current camera the M240 holds its own very well! Agree. I got my M240's used, upgraded from M9 due to there being no permanent solution for sensor corrosion (at the time), and dissatisfaction with the M9's recocking sound. There is nothing about Leica's newer M offerings that compels me to upgrade further at this time. I have used an M10 and find neither the size nor the viewfinder afford me any advantage in comfort or accuracy. My financial priorities have evolved over the years to where I no longer derive any satisfaction from spending thousands of dollars to upgrade cameras every few years.
Advertisement Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 Hi bocaburger, Take a look here Why the M240 (and its siblings) is still the best M platform. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Paulus Posted January 13, 2019 Share #42 Posted January 13, 2019 I was thinking about the time about 11 years ago, when friends sold their Leica stuff because Leica did not have a real digital camera. Than the M8 came and everything changed! And now the M 10 ! If you compare it with the M6 and what the M6 was capable of and all the professional M6 users who where very glad with it! I think, that if this camera was predicted 11 years ago, nobody had sold its gear so cheap. I bought a chrome apo Summicron 90mm ASPH for €1000,- new. ! https://www.leica-store-berlin.de/de/gebraucht/11131/apo-summicron-m-2090mm-asph-silbern-verchromt-mit-ovp Because nobody believed that Leica was able to make a camera that would be competitive with other Nikon / Canon camera's. Maybe we are forgetting how good a M 10 camera really is and how close to the M6 concept which lasted for decades.
JOCO34 Posted January 13, 2019 Share #43 Posted January 13, 2019 I bought a very lightly used M240 two years ago to accompany my M8 and to me it is an inspiring fun to use tool. I looked at the M10 and while it's also a great camera it really doesn't do anything extra that the M240 does and in fact a little less. The build quality of both is far better than I deserve and wil keep the M240 for as long as it's reliable and produces the images that I want. I really feel that too often we want to change camera in the hopes of improving our photography but rarely are successful. With the full frame M240 I can achieve a better image with hopefully good reliability in my opinion than with the 1:3 ratio framed M8. I don't think the M10 would improve my photography over the M240
